last minute buck

I was out on the last evening of buck archery season this weekend when this big 6 point showed up right at dusk with 4 other 8pt bucks. I guessed him about 3 years old on the hoof and noticed he had no brow tines so I deside to cull him from the herd being the last day of season there was no reason to hold onto that last buck tag anymore.I took aim with my Exocet and after a perfect shot he dropped in 40 yards. All the other bucks just stood around for ten minutes and looked at him before leaveing. After doing my processing I notice the old fart didn't have any teeth left. I guess he had went way down hill antler wise according to my deer teeth chart he was over 7.5 years old. I am glad I took him now he didn't have many more years left in him I will be sure to tenderize his meat really well before cooking it up! Anyway a good end to a great season I was able to take a big mature 8pt buck 20" wide, A mature 9pt buck heavy mass and 18" wide and last but not least this nice mature 6 pt buck. I don't get many seasons like this one so I guess I will sit back and enjoy for a few days and rest up for the last part of archery doe season to put another doe in the freezer before Jan 15 ending date.

I fought fire all day yesterday. I don't know how it got started but downwind of my farm on a large tract of timber land had huge wild fire started up in the morning. We had high wind guest all day long and I have never seen fire move so fast. At one point a blaze was crossing one of my hay fields so fast it covered about 200 yards in just a couple of minutes before the fireman were able to stop it. Unreal I didn't have any idea fire could move so fast. I was really lucky just so burned fields and woods mostlikey will do the land more good than bad in the long run. I have to be really thankful to all the firefighters At one point there were over 20 trucks,1 airplane and a bull dozer all working. Thats alot of man power and they all worked hard all day. There were guys from Tenn and other states as well giveing their help. The redcross also brought meals and drinks by. Lots of people give their time to help for free makes you feel really good to see that first hand. Alot of other fires have had many homes destoryed thankfully this one no homes were lost just some burned land.

Terry glad to hear that the fires have not been worse for you. It is also amazing how people come together when disaster happens. Sad but people should come together even before that happens.

Hey great job Terry........I killed 3 this year but nothin to brag about as far as antlers go..but real good eaters...hope the fire doesnt get to ya to much..its been close around here but my place is safe...alot a folk in trouble though...Happy new year T good luck on that doe..

Congrats Terry-1 the real trophy deer are the ones like yours seasoned veterens that know the woods like the back of there hoof,

try mixing some pork with the ground it will help, speedball.........
