Attempt to build own stock ?

Post by curmudgeon »

This is nothing agains't Mark and his great work with making a Xbow stock.
I just can't afford one.
During the off season, I would like to try making my own for my vixen.
Maybe it would quieten my xbow some.
What would be the best block of wood to use ? Of course I would like it to be as light as possible. Anyone know of any link's to doing this.
Thank you for any input. :)

curmudgeon , you have a pm.

Greywolf , these are some good contacts for ordering wood , i contacted all of them and a couple more looking for a source to do the rough stock  When they got a look at what needed to be done they all choked on me or wanted more than what i charge for a completed stock just for a rough cut pc of wood without mtg holes or a fitted rail channel not to mention the recoil pad. The biggest excuse i got was that they needed qtys in the hundreds and tooling ( expensive ) to get close to the pricing i am using for a finished stock.

I build my own stock using mahogany. I got from a window installer (custom) Luckally for me it was free! You may want to see if you can find a local custom window and door insataller they use alot of exotics and hardwoods for their jobs and will have the wood around. Maybe somme of these guys would sell to you.

Nice, real nice :!:

Stocks are different for the rifles/guns as special treatment has to be done....Drying time and things like that. As I don't do that thing I can't explain it all but it's different making :D
Always learning!!

That is one nice looking Smokepole, if it shoots like it looks the deer are in trouble.
