Then I wouldn't be able to stay... All I have is a hotmail account
No it would only be for "new" members. Another alternative would be to allow any valid email address, that is proven to belong to the member who registered.

The reason why an email address from the member's actual ISP is better is that it would be a lot easier to trace that person, if the need should arise.

Joined the forum in September, read it for a good 8months before that,
didn't post for a good while until I had something worthwhile to say or ask .Might not post again for six months if nothing intelligent comes into my brain . As a relative newbie I'd sure be disappointed if I went to post my big
buck in November and I wasn't there anymore.
Never checked the members list. If they don't post something relative to crossbows I don't read or respond .Just let'm slide to the bottom of the forum. JMHO

Don't misunderstand, I don't suggest that a member has to post every six months to maintain membership. Only that they should have at least some occasional posts.

You have 27 posts, so you're not a problem. It's those folks who have been here for YEARS and have not posted anything, other than a link to their unrelated web site.

Currently we have 719 "members" with zero posts.

More than likely, as well as probably barking up the wrong tree.

If so, then true-blue members shouldn't "cry" when we get spammers and trolls

I don't know about here, but at my website I can pull up any member's profile and tell when they last LOGGED on.

I've got a few that the ONLY time they logged on was when they joined.

Maybe they will be back, but who knows.

I understand the need for some controls on what is posted . some of topic stuff is pure SPAM and I would be glad to see it go, but I have seen on other forums where a strict crackdown of off topic stuff really killed the forum . I personally just ignore the SPAM .
I haven't posted much but I am here every day . I have learned an amazing amount. I will be buying an Exomax sometime in the next year. It is very comforting to have a forum like this if I should have problems with my first X-bow.
We have a great resource here and I would hate to see it diminished in any way.

I don't understand what being a member and not posting has to do with the trolls and spam. I've never seen and have no idea what this cluttered memberlist is and how it affects the forum. Its never affected me, I've never seen it.

The only trolls and spam I've seen are the ones who became members and actually posted something! They meet your criteria so they wouldn't be affected.

Even though I have posted a few times over the years, I'm with some of the others. A lot of those members with 0 posts are probably legitimate people who come to read and just registered so they could post if the situation ever came up that they wanted to reply to.

I've read this forum a lot the last few years, but don't have the time or inclination to post much unless I feel I have something worthwile to contribute. I'll use this time to thank those who do take the time to contribute worthwile ideas and advice on this forum. Thats why I'm still here reading it. But I would also have to add, that some posters post more frequently than is probably worthwhile. :)

Leave the silent ones alone.

what harm can they do if they never post?

I guess that was the point of my earlier post.
