burning/smoke smell

Post by Rich »

Once in a while when I shoot my Exocet, I get a burning/smoke smell. Is this caused by the bolt striking the rail or the string slapping. Once I thought I even seen sparks, I've examined my bolts and they have a black streak on the aluminum nock. Is this something to worry about or is it just the blazing speed of an EXCALIBUR. The XBOW shoots bullet holes, so it is not effecting accuracy. Thanks Rich

Mine used to do that when I first got it, it was the wax I smelt every shot. All your bolts will have some streaks near the nocks. From sliding down the rail.

It's the air burning. Get used to it! LOL
No really ever shot at night and seen the sparks? It's what makes that smell I guess.

I've noticed it happens more so after I put a new coat wax on the string/serving.
I'm sure you will notice it more as well after a string waxing, it's really nothing to worry about.
It's just the wax burning off.

Street racers "burn rubber" whereas Excalibur users "burn aluminum".

burning smell

Post by Daniele »

I noticed that smell with both my xbows, VIXEN an EXOMAG, always thought it was the string itself, yes it is more noticeable after a good waxing; somehow i thought the string fibres snapped with vibrations from the shot, hence producing a crack not unlike one coming from a whip's end
with a sparkle if done in the dark.
Daniele.
Good hunting, be safe.
