New toys
Pre Season the guys here either pick up new stings, I carry all 4, scopes, targets, new arrows, Etc. Today, I set up a customer with an Exomax and a Vari Zone Scope. He lives here close so we shot at my range. I started him out with a Dacron Flemish String so he can start practicing and get good string life. We will change him out for a Fast Flite Flemish or Excel to pick up a little speed for hunting. Next, we tried different wt. aluminum with 5" and 4" vanes and carbon arrows. We cronoghaphed different manufacturers arrows with 2219 we were averaging 311fps. He dicided to start out with the carbons and shoot thru the summer. I advised him to look at changing to 2216 or 2219 Aluminum for hunting. He will be hunting Elk and Deer. I still recommend aluminum on any larger game, Mule Deer, Elk, Moose, Buffalo, Etc. I have never failed to have a pass thru shot with aluminum. I have had perfectly placed shots with carbon arrows on large game and I did not get good penetration.
I like to get hunters started early shooting so they can get used to the new add ons such as scopes. For a scope without lit reticals I prefer the Excalibur Vari Zone.
I mix and match bows and scopes all the time right now for a lit recticle scope I prefer the TenPoint 3x-Pro-View or the Quad III Camo Scope. Both have green, red or natural recticals. Both scopes are good for any bow shooting 300+fps. Both are designed for 20, 30, 40 yard shots. I hope someday TenPoint will build some that we can shoot to 60 yards. As it is really important out west.
The customer was happy to take home his first stacked arrows. He is really impressed with the Exomax.
