Possible new reg's in Ontario re:baiting

Post by TB »

On the MNR website proposed new regulations, they are talking about prohibiting baiting for deer Fall 2006 in order to curb CWD. I wonder if any one has heard more about this because it COULD restrict food plots salt licks, scents, and corn or other product being left out specifically for food. It would also restrict supplemental feed in the spring up north to see the deer thtrough the final month(s) of winter. Basically anything that would bring deer together to feed would potentially be affected. Just wonder if anyone heard?

Heard they were considering changes but didn't know the details. I guess that wouldn't stop you from hunting over natural food sources, like agricultural fields.

Everyone I know, who baits, predominantly uses apples and/or corn. Are these not natural food sources for deer in the wild? :? Even for people who have apple trees on their lawn, whether they may spray them or not(for insects), they still get deer at the apple trees. My parents, who do spray their trees, and don't have any bush for hundreds of yards, still get deer in the backyard after the apples.

I use apples myself, and I believe without it, on my small chunk of land, I would get skunked every season if this goes through. Or I guess I would have to resort to go knockin on doors again for permission. :?

I better get planting some apple trees in the back to supplement putting piles of apples out. Because if they are considering this now, chances are it will be in place in a matter of years.

My 2 cents.
