exomax 225

Post by bobow »

Howdy, Has anyone reached the advertise speed of the exomax or any other of the excalibur crossbows. I crony my exomax with carbon express 20 inch arrows at 325.8 fps that is far short of 355 fps as advertised,a 2219 at 312 fps,2216 at 309 fps.

bobo, How much do those carbon express weigh?... 350gr?

Do you have a fast flight flemish string, or the Excel string on it?

Maybe your Chronograph is not reading it right.

I had an Exomax a little over two years ago and with a 356 gr Gold Tip LaserII, I was getting 353.4 fps out of my Exomax. But I found the Lasers too light for the Max.

Yes, both my exocet 175 and my exomax 225 get the advertised speeds, but with the flemish string and the right weight bolt (350 gr).

Exocet 175: 309 fps - 360 grains bolt
exomax 225: 346 fps - 360 grains bolt

here you can find some tests:

http://www.cacciaebalestra.altervista.o ... estre.html

I tried to increase speed in all ways (different Fast Flight string with 22 treads, short brace height) and I have increased Exomax performance about 5 fps, but with a 350 grains arrow best speed has been 345 fps instead 340, sure not 355.

Well, I guess you have a slower Exomax than what mine was.. I bought one of the original ExoMax models when they first come out with them back in spring 2004. I pretty well got the correct advertized speeds out of my Max. So were other members who bought the original versions. The way to tell if you have an original version is it will have only one scribed line on the rail as opposed to two.

Big Bear, what speeds were you getting from your original version of the Max?

I hope Big Bear replies to this thread, cause I know he was getting pretty well the same readings from his Max as I was with mine.

I got my ExoMax the same week LoneWolf got his. Actually I got mine a couple of days before him because the postal workers used his for a spring hunting trip for about a week before they gave it back to him

I've never had mine on the Chronograph but it does smoke and it is waaayyyyy faster then my buddy's Exocet 175.

Well truth of the matter is, it makes no diff. which model ya got as they will do the adv. speed IF you want to shoot the MIN. arrow weight :!:

I would however suggest a 400+ weight arrow if'n you LOVE your MAX .... :D

:?: That is the advertized max speed , With 250 to 359 grain gold tips I have only got a max. of 353 f.p.s. Once I tefflon coated my rail I jumped up to 364 f.p.s. useing the same bolts, I used to favor speed more than weight , But after a year and a half of testing the MAX I find a 430 to 436 grain bolt with a F.O.C. oif 12 to fly the best and put out a hell of a lot more K.E. and thats what takes game down fast !! , With my rail coating I still get 328 F.P.S. out of a 430 grain bolt , As we saw in Bills video a heavy bolt in the right place , will take almost any game on the planet. The MAX is the beast of X-BOWS and is not for every one , ,your most important thing is to be profecient and comfortable with your weapon and not worry about only speed GREYWOLF

I've always waxed my crossbow rails and bolts/arrows with a quality car wax for as long as I can remember.

By waxing the rail/bolts will get you extra fps, which generates to that much more K.E.
