Crossbow target...

Post by daveL »

I looking for a good target that will stop my Exomax bolts from going through and messing up the fletching. I have been shooting the field points but I will be shooting broadheads as well. Thanks.

Home made or store bought? So a search on the forum for "target" and you'll get lots of postings. An old roll of carpet works well and so does a feed bag stuffed with old rags or plastic grocery bags.

I've shot my ExoMax into a Black Hole with field points and had the bolts so far in (up to the fletching) that I needed to buy an arrow puller to get them out easily. Before that, I was unscrewing the tips and backing the arrows out with a block of wood and a hammer. My bolts can be pulled out by hand when I shoot a cheap Eternity bag target.

I haven't tried broadheads yet, though. Getting to be about that time though, isn't it?!

Best target I've found is a dirt bank. Just be sure to get the rocks out before you shoot!

I'm going to make a target with plastic shopping bags. I have a couple of buddies saving their's for me but they don't go through groceries fast enough.

My homemade "shopping bag" target stops the field points with ease. Chris4570 shot a few broadheads at it also and it stopped them well.

Very cheap too!!!

The bag is a feed bag. Got a few full of corn for the fall and the rest came from a horse farm which was selling "organic fertilizer" by the road.

I have probably shot 50 shots at the centre bullseyes by now and you can see the penetration. They still come out with very little effort. A new bag freshly stuffed will have you pulling them out with two fingers. 4-5 inches of penetration when I first started.

After you weaken a spot you can simply pull out the stuffing, repack it and your're good to go again.

Ok - here is a stupid question. What type of bags are you using for the inside? I know you use a burlap type for the outside. Can you use any plastic bag? Thanks.

Plastic shopping bags from the local supermarket crammed as tightly as you can in the burlap bag. Bolts come out with 2 fingers.
