Yep,
100 yard accuracy is possible with a crossbow, and the old BP 45-70 rifles could get 1000 yard accuracy, but mid-range trajectory with either might endanger low flying aircraft!
This is firing arrows with a crossbow and is quite an old traditional sport that has been popular for thousands of years in ethnic groups such as the Miao, Yi, Lahu, Lisu, and Yao. Miao men practice shooting with the crossbow from boyhood and contests are often held. They use corn cakes and pieces of meat as targets and players who hit these receive them as prizes. The winner with the best record usually receives other things as well as the esteem of the villagers. When they grow up and go out hunting and fishing, they will always take crossbow with them. One of the reasons for the importance of this sport is that as these people live in a mountainous area where wild and often dangerous animals are frequently encountered.
A crossbow is usually made of the tough wood of the yansang tree that grows mostly in Hunan and Guangxi Provinces. With a trigger made of cattle or goat horn, the larger bow is about 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) wide and 0.75 - 1 meter long (2.46 - 3.28 feet); and the smaller one is 1 meter (3.3 feet) wide and 0.5 - 0.7 meter (1.64 - 2.3 feet) long. The effective range of the large bow is around 200 meters (656 feet) and that of the small one is around 100 meters (328 feet). Bows may be used from either a standing or kneeling posture and it requires considerable strength to draw back the string and put the bolts or arrows in place.
Often during festivals and galas, there will be crossbow contests among people of ethnic groups. The criteria lie in the distance and the accuracy. In the China's 2nd National Games of Minority Nationality's Traditional Sports in 1982, players from Yunnan and Guangxi Province performed this sport with excellent skills, and in the 3rd games, it formed one of the main competitions.
The only ex who has a piece of my heart is Excalibur
In europe they have precision competetions with crossbows on 100yards and even longer. In the picture you see Mr.Günter Wetzler(Excalibur dealer Germany Wolfszeit) shooting at such a competetion. With the adjustable scope mount he is selling you can shoot very far. I can even do that with my Vixen. But off course most crossbows with a non adjustable mount that are sighted in for hunting you dont shoot this far.
Very interesting picture! Note the angle of the scope in relation to the arrow. Looks like the arrow will cross the line of sight at just a couple feet in front of the bow. I don't have anything handy to measure the angle of the arrow above horizontal but it must be 10 or 15º at least!
I did not try to tell people to shoot 100yards and more. I am just interested in long range shooting(not hunting) myself and wanted to show a picture of a crossbow set for very long distance. And that picture show clearly how the arrow will fly. And its not flat. And that might help all you crossbow hunters. If you can show the anti crossbow people a crossbow set for 100yards or more compared to one that is set for 20yards(hunting) they will see the big difference. I am a hunter and a gunsmith so I know all about the ethic issues about shooting at to long distances. I dont shoot at long distances even with a rifle. Not because I am a bad shooter, its because Im a good hunter.
After inventing the shooting sport Top Gun Challenge (The squirrel rifle championship of the world) I tried my had at a few imposible target with a 22. Trying a 12 guage hull at 200 yards, I had to do the same thing as the crossbow 100 yards shooter. I had the jack the scope up so high no nomal hunting shot could be made with the rifle. But I did hit the hulls and managed 4 inch groups..not bad.
The funny thing about deer hunting in Louisiana's triple canopy forests (jungle) are most shots at deer are 50 yards or closer.
They dont make an arrow or a bullet that will shoot trough all this wonderful conglemerate of brush, twigs and or foliage, that seems to always get inbetween you and the deer. With this normal 20 yard zero, seems you have about a 12 inch drop, more or less at 40 yards. Dont think I'll try any 100 yard shots on deer with any arrow shooting devise. On the other hand I wish I had a dollar for every 30-06 bullet I disintergrated or deflected before I ever cut hair. You cant see this through a scope most of the time.
For those who wonder what will get through the brush, there is something. But once again you have to know what your doing to make it work...and that is a load of buckshot. That is why it is so popular in this state, because it works, but only inside 50 yards.

Swede congrats on your style of shooting. Anyone that can considently hit targets out to 100 yards or meters needs to be congradulated.
The trouble is over here, on this side of the Ocean, there are people that are telling others that crossbows shoot flat out to 100 yards and beyond. And people are believing that. IT is taking alot of effort to straighten out all these misconceptions or NON TRUTHS that are being said.
What some of those people are doing is taking reports of target shooting to 100 meters and converting it to hunting distances with no reguard to the actual truth. They also do not mention that compound shooters also shoot those distances as target shooters.
Again, congrats on your shooting, but please remember ....... only shoot one arrow at a time per target or it will become expensive

And we do have the trouble over here with the demand of weapon licens on our crossbows. Actually the licen demad sucks. We have so much regulations that controlls crossbow shooting that the bow shooters dont have, although we try to give the athorities the fact that our crossbows are not more dangerous than a compound bow(no licen to buy).
When I target shoot and miss(yes I do that too sometimes ) I always find the arrow maximun 10m behind the target. We have tried to tell this to the authorities but they refuse to listen. We have invited them to come and meet us and see this with their own eyes. But they are not interested. I guess they are just being so political correct making it hard for everyone with some kind of shooting interest.
I do understand your problem. But then its hard to discuss anything else than hunting in this forum. And thinking of us in europe that is not allowed to hunt with crossbows we have no place here . Our connection and joy with crossbows are only the "sport" side of it. I do understand your side of it but where should we get the possibility to talk and learn more about crossbow shooting and Excalibur products?
jh45gun this might just be my opinion but if it is not the 100 yard shot issue, where they will change the truths to non truths to justify their lies, they will find something else.
The thing is, we, the crossbow comunity, has done a very good job with education and showing their blaintant lies and how they are purposely misleading people to keep things the way they want it. Just look how so many States have now acepted the crossbow. Others will follow as I believe that the Anti's are shooting themselves in the foot.
Swede, you and others like you that target shoot long distances are welcome here. This is a crossbow site and is for educating people on the uses of crossbows. Even though Excalibur makes and designs their bows for hunters by hunters, it is a testiment of their quality and dependability that target shooters choose it to shoot the 100 yard shots.
Earlier in the life of this forum, at this location on the web, I as well as others went Toe to Toe with members from Bowsite that came here to only bash crossbows. We won with our truths arguement and a history lesson. It is and will be a long battle, but is worth the effort.
I guess the only thing we can do to make it difficult for the to even copy & paste 100 yard shots into their own agenda is to make sure "Target Shooting" is always mentioned when talking about 100 yard shots.

Ok, I just dont want to mess up things for you guys. I know all the trouble we have in Sweden and I would hate if crossbow hunters over there would be in the trouble we(crossbow shooters) have. Its much easier getting "real" rifles and shotguns licens than a crossbow target shooting licens over here(but I would not call it easy getting rifles and shotguns either). Getting my first crossbow licens was much work I can tell you although Im a weapon owner and gunsmith! Have I understod it right, is it the bowhunters that dont want you around!?! If it is it all sounds bizarr. They could slip on their own argument against crossbow hunters and maybe one day they will not be able to hunt either, just like in Sweden.
If I ever mention long range shooting with crossbow I will make sure it clearly says target shooting. Yes, Excalibur is a hunting crossbow but also great for competetion. Today I can see that Excalibur shooters dominate the sport shooting and that must be good commercial value. There is no better way to try out a product than have it tested in different competetations against other crossbows. I guess thats why many buy Excalibur over here because it has proven to be the best in competetions.
