COCKED EXCALIBUR CROSSBOW

Post by aspire30 »

Does anyone know how long you can leave a Excalibur cocked before you should release the string so you would not damage your limbs? Thanks Ed

I have been in a stand from 5AM till noon with my Excalibur cocked and had no problems with it, you could probably go longer if you wanted to.

I would think 1 hunting day would be fine, that is about 10-12 hours maybe up to 15 hours in some areas. I would think they are made to take up to 24 hours though. Jack.

I always leave mine cocked while I'm out hunting. If I decide to get up and move, I either uncock the bow, or I just take the bolt out.

The longest I have had mine cocked is just over 8 hours while on stand.

I usually don't leave mine cocked for over 4 or 5 hours at a time, but I'd also take into consideration the temperature, and whether it's in the sun or shade. If I'm hunting in 80º (F) weather I usually don't leave it for more than a couple hours if I can help it. In cold weather I don't worry about it if it's cocked for several hours.

On my experience I have noticed that the problem isn't a limb failure but a decrease of limbs speed. My crossbow after some hunting days, 8 hours cocked per day, has lost 3-4 fps of speed, forever. That is normal: every kind of material, also the limb fiber, a little, just a little, loses elastic module. Obviously an exomax with 16.5" of power stroke loses more than a phoenix.

Never thought about the weather. I guess in really hot temperatures it might not be good to leave it cocked for long.

But I'm normally out during the winter or in chilly weather with my crossbow.

I have a spare Excal made up from different parts and pieces that I've picked up. I haven't tried it yet but will later at the property. No scope on it just the factory F/O sights.
