Post by jw »

I am sure you folks have talked about this before but I missed it! My Exocet is SO LOUD. What can be done to quiet it without changing arrow impact, speed etc??

If you are worried about string jump, just get em in good and close. They will react once the bolt is in the ground on the other side of them.

If I fire my bow from the left it sounds loud. If I fire from my right it's a lot quieter. ....Right ear was damaged while in the army because of a post office.

Seriously though. There's not much you can do about it. Here's a link.

Thanks for the link and I guess I will stop wondering now. I killed two does at 20yds in the last two days and they had no chance! I was just worrying about a longer shot at a Big Buck?

Out of curiosity, anyone ever noticed if a vixen is quieter than the exomax? it makes sense that it would be, just wondered if you could actually hear the difference?
Thanks Steven

You're correct about the bow making the noise, but the type of string will affect the noise, i.e. dacron has more stretch and give and will absorb some of the noise better than the Fastflight string.

You can install Tunerz on your limbs, they wrap around and button on. Installed about mid limb facing away from you on the limb seems to take some of the snap out ofthe bow. Mark and I have played with the tunerz and his wooden stock and it made a big difference.

I put two Sims pads on each limb and it did help, but it is still loud.Ihave bolt speed of 328fps with them on.

I have a Vixen. :D I have the factory string. I put cat whiskers on the string and wound up with then 7 inches from the rail. I put the large Sims limb-savers on the sides of the rail just below the string, centered on the string. I have the large limb-savers on the belly of the limbs as far out as they will go. I have the small(recurve) limb savers on the back of the limbs butted up against the limb hold down bar. I have a Simms hold down spring silencer on the hold down spring. I am not absolutely sure all this really makes the bow quieter, but, it has greatly changed the frequency of the noise and there is simply no felt viberation.

I am not sure how much speed all of this cost me, but, I am getting 265fps with a 438 grain bolt and 260 with a 455 grain bolt, :? and I am well pleased and satisfied with that performance.
I never was as good as I used to be.
