2216's or 2219's

Post by RyanB »

Hey all, been a while since I posted on here! I know this question has been asked probaby 100 times but I didn't find anything usefull to me!

I am shooting a 2000 carved tip 180LBS Exomag and back when I first got it I was shooting a set of cut down Easton XX78 2219's and was shooting vanes and 125gr thunder heads. I took a few years off of hunting (hurt my arm/hand pretty bad and couldn't shoot) last year I got back into it and bought some 2216's and was shooting 100gr thunder heads shorter vanes than I had on the 2219's.

Here is my question...I need new fletching on the 2219's and just want your opinion on what to go with. When I shoot the 2216's/100gr's the bow is almost twice as loud as the heavy arrows. Is there anyone else shooting a set of heavy 2219's with an older bow like mine or even a newer one?

Personally I don't shoot out past 30 hards hunting but do like to know that the heavy arrows might get a bit better punch if needed!

worth getting the 2219's redone or should I just use the 16's?

Oh...thinking of taking the jump to feathers. I shot them on my horizontal bows but never on an X-bow...worth it?

Your 2000 Emag is a 185 lb draw, and will shoot 2219 & 2216 as well. the lighter the bolt the louder it wll sound. I used 2219 and 100 gr slick trick broad heads in my 2001 mag tip Emag with great results. Dissaptor bars will reduce some sound levels as will a wooden stock. You can also try carbon bolts with brass inserts to get a heavier bolt. Mine still shot over 300 fps with that setup.

Majority of people have 4-5 inch vanes.

2 inch Blazers from Bohning do the trick for me. Very durable ,also have zero clearance trouble with the rail.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Alot of people are using the Blazer vanes now. I haven't tried them yet.

Someone sent me some to try, but I haven't gotten a chance to try them out yet, as I haven't gotten a fletcher yet.

I have a 2005 Vixen. I use a 20 inch Easton 2219 shaft, Easton inserts in each end, 3, 5 inch, shield cut feathers, Muzzy 100 gain 4 blade heads. Total weight is an avereage of 438 grains, weighed. Shooting from my picnic table, I can hit 3 inch target spots with every shot at 30 yards, 8 out of 10 at 40 yards. This is with the factory fiber optic sights.

I also have the exact same shaft and accessories except for 3, 5 inch, AAE vanes. Total weight is an average 455 grains weighed. I can shoot into the 3 inch dots at 40 yards with field points or Rocket Steelhead 100 mechanicals. The Muzzys don't do as well, around 5 inches.

I shot a recurve bow for 38 years with feathers. I shot a compound bow for 12 years with feathers. I have been shooting the crossbow for two years. Feathers are awesome from the crossbow. Obviously I not only like feathers but I have some experience of taking care of feathers and keeping them dry.
I never was as good as I used to be.

Feathers work great and look good to; but Blazers are darn near indestructable. Have had pass thrus on 3 d targets and they are still good to go. Blazers do not have the charm or good looks of shield cut , or barred feathers
