Proud Dad, First Deer

Post by Maritimer »

This is the first year that my son is aloud to hunt, and we are in the process of make our own hunting memories. I will never forget last night for my 12 year old son harvest his first deer ever. We got set up in our location and approximately 1 hour later a nice doe walked to within 12 yards. I was so proud watching him slowly lifting up the Phoenix, taking the safety off and then shooting. Well the deer jumped into the air then bolted into the woods, we could hear it going then a loud crash. That is when I told him that his deer was down. The look on his face was priceless, I gave him a hug and then congratulated him. My wife who was hunting at the other corner of the field heard all the commotion and came over to join us. It was nice to watch my young fellow hug his mom then tell her all about his adventure. We waited 1/2 hour before we started tracking the deer, it was recovered about 50 yards away. It was nice walking out of the woods watching my son holding his mom's hand and of course the old man dragging the deer.

I will post pictures after I get them developed.

I got my first turkey and deer last year, with my Dad there, funny thing is both should have been his but circumstances lead to a shot for me. I am 22 and have been hunting since I was 15 and had gone with him before that. The look of his face was priceless. I am sure he feels the same, way to go.
