Went out this afternoon, for a night sit. Was sitting in a stand that i just put up two days ago. The property that i am hunting belongs to a family friend that purchased it about 2 months ago. Its not very large only 25 acres but is located in an area notorious for having a large deer population and best of all it's only about 15 mins from home. From scouting the property the last two weeks we have found that deer are highly concentrated to one corner of the land. Anyways was in the stand at 3:15 and saw nothing till about 4:30. At 4:30 one of the largest damn porchpines i have ever seen crossed the field and began to feed at about 30 yards from me. Not long after that a strae cat decided to join in and was feeding about 5 yards from the porchpine. A site i have never seen and infact i have to admit the two of them there was starting to make me a little nervous. Not so much the porchpine but the cat. Anyways at about 5:40 a noticed a 6 pointer making his way out of the bush, he stopped and was spooked by the cat, he ran back into the bush, but behind him was another 2 does a fawn and another larger buck. The four other deer never presented a shot but were all within 40 yards from me. Soon after the larger buck began chasing one of does and the four of them moved back into the bush. Within minutes the 6 pointer i had originally seen was under my stand about 8 yards but i had no shot at him untill he was at 10 yards and moved into a shooting lane. The good old MAG did the job on him. Tracking was 0 yards cause i hit im a little high in the spine.
6 point buck not a huge deer but good enough to start the season! You can notice from the pic, that the little guy was doing some rubbing. Sorry about the half body shot, not sure what my buddy was thinking when he snapped the pic!
