ATTN: Indiana Crossbowers....

Post by Woody Williams »

Indiana late season crossbow buck proposal

For the last 4 years crossbowers in Indiana have been able to take an antlered buck in the late archery season. The original intent was this was a "trial".

The Indiana DNR proposes to extend the late season crossbow buck another 5 years. Baically an extension of the "trial". There will be some people that are flat against this even though there is very little, if any, impact on the buck population.

Crossbowers, physically challenged and non-physically challenged take less than 100 deer (bucks and does) in the late season.

Those people do not want crossbows in the woods at any time.

The proposed changes are summarized as follows:

2. Changes the expiration date with the restriction that allows a hunter who uses a crossbow in the late archery season under a regular archery license to be able to take an antlered deer only during the time frame in which the one buck rule is in effect (September 1, 2012).

3. Changes the expiration date with the restriction that allows a hunter who uses a crossbow in the late archery season under an extra archery license to be able to take an antlered deer only during the time frame in which the one buck rule is in effect (September 1, 2012)

The regulation change

(d) The seasonal limit for hunting under this section is one (1) deer of either sex. After August 31, 2012, a person an individual must not take an antlered deer by means of a crossbow.

The IDNR and the NRC seems to go with whatever the majority wants in these cases. Please send your comments to...

And tell them that you support extending the late season crossbow buck.

Thanks,

Y'all need to move on down to Tennessee. We can use those things during the whole archery season.

Woody, Sent an email!
I live in Ohio, but am close to the Indiana border. I currently do not hunt in Indiana and one big reason is your state's restrictive crossbow regulations. I'm physically impaired to the point that using a conventional bow and arrow for hunting is not a practical option for me. I understand the proposal being reviewed at present is merely an extension of a current policy allowing crossbows in the late season. I understand that all too many of these decisions are made on a political basis instead of sound reasoning. If a voiceful minority cries out in protest they gain recognition. I believe those who protest the inclusion of the crossbow in archery season are such a loud minority, and all too often their protests are a result of misinformation they have been given. The crossbow is merely another form of archery. It propels an arrow just the same as any other bow, and the laws of physics limit the arrow from a crossbow in range and power just as much as they limit an arrow from a conventional vertically held longbow (when I say longbow I include longbow, recurve bow, and compound bow in my definition). The safety of the general public is no more threatened by a crossbow than from any other bow. About the only advantage a crossbow really holds over a longbow is that it allows some people with physical limitations that prevent using a longbow to join in on the sport of archery and bowhunting. Those people deserve the same rights to be able to take advantage of the archery season as anyone else!
I would urge those individuals making the decisions on the hunting laws to take the facts into account before voting. If they do I'm sure the crossbow will be included in allowable archery equipment, and perhaps one day soon I can also spend my hunting dollars in your great state!
Thank You,
wabi

As usual , very well put by you Wabi.

Maybe we can arrange a swap hunt some day if we can get Indiana to ever recognize crossbows as legal archery hunting tools..

Thanks for your input..
