10 & 13yr olds both score with blackpowder

Post by DuckHunt »

My 10yr old son scored his first two deer with my Exomax back in October. Yesterday he scored again with his new muzzleloader. Fifteen minutes before sunrise a little doe came running over the hill in response to a doe bleat call. It stopped about 10 steps away on the uphill side of our stand right in front of us. The deer was right at eye level. He drilled it right through the heart. It went about 30 yards and crashed.

Of course my son has been giving my daughter considerable grief since he is now the master hunter. :)

This morning she bagged this 4pt from the same stand with his rifle. She saw it about 100 yards away slipping in our direction. It didn't provide a great shooting opportunity. She asked if a neck shot was fine. I told her it is a tougher shot, but a great one. She was a little off at 50 yards but still clipped the spine above the shoulders. Game over. It was her first buck so she was very happy. She has been rubbing my sons' nose in it all day.

It has been a great season so far. I've watched my kids bag as many as I've taken. I think it is more fun to watch them. :D

Congratulations to you and your kids. You can tell them their success was part to your great coaching. It's what my father did whenever I would harvest one.

Great ! It is great to see a family get out and spend time together, doing it while hunting even better.

Congrats. I always got more enjoyment and satisfaction when my kids got a deer then when I took one myself. Keep up the good work

What a great story. It does not get any better than that. They will always remember their first deer. Thanks for sharing the pics. Looks like you have your hands full. When you can coach them successfully in deer hunting, I can't help but think they have to give you credit when you give them advice in other areas. I have 3 daughters who are a little older, we need all the help we can get.
