Why is archery cheaper (less expensive) in Canada?

Post by wabi »

Not sure how to phrase the comment so I don't offend anyone or get their defenses up, but I'm not complaining, I'm praising!
Thinking this morning about what I do 90% or more of my hunting with - archery equipment - and what I use, Falcon - Thunderbird - Phoenix. The Falcon and Thunderbird are a great recurve & longbow from CheckMate (made in Canada) and the Phoenix I'm sure you'll recognize.
I was just wondering how & why such great products can be made and sold so reasonably by my neighbors to the north, and similar items in the USA either cost many times the price or are junk. There is no crossbows to really compare to Excalibur, about all the good ones made in the US are compounds, but for similar quality you can expect to pay much more. The custom stickbows from CheckMate are well made, and half or less of what most US bowyers get!
Not sure why the products from Canada are such good quality at very reasonable prices - but I commend the manufacturers north of the border for selling great products and not gouging consumers!

It's like a trade-off. You guys pay less for a lot of other things.

It is because of your unionized workers cost to much. Unions are not allowed in Canada!

Just kidding.

Wabi,

I never thought of it that way. I always thought you guys had more selection and better prices. Like most of these guys are saying, I guess its a trade off here and there. Probably all works out in the end.

Your dollar is worth more to us here so we dont have to sell so high. Plus the U.S market for archery retail is bigger then Canadas. Get into that market sell more bows.
