you know what you prefer by the way you hunt

Post by mdcrossbow »

for me I enjoy the bow , heres why. Last day of gun season yesterday.
I have had a 25 year on going curse of not being able to get a decent size buck with a shot gun or any gun for that matter and our last day was no different. 5 minites till the end of legal light I hear um comen. Behind me, out of the realy think stuff. I can see one 75yards off head hidden behind some holly but full body. I wasn't sure if that was the only deer and with minites till the end I turned around sat on my sit down bar , rested my 1187 on the back of the seat and took aim, down. I have never had to track a gun shot deer, shoulder shot drops them everytime. But bad for me cause I then proceed to close everything up lower my gun , DAM ! BIG RACK ! WHITE FLAG ! , all I could say on the hr and half drive home was; wrong deer wrong deer. LOL Well their is a black powder season comeing in a week. I can't figure it out, durring bow season I can wait but put a gun in my hands and I'm ready to bust um.

prefer bow

I prefer the Bow as well. It is much more peacefull out there with a bow in hand. I have only used Bow's and Shot Guns. Shot guns being the most versatile in the bush. By that I mean you can Hunt anything with a Shot Gun, Hunt Big Game one Day, and switch Barrels the next and Hunt Waterfowl or Upland. But by far my most favourite way to Hunt is The Bow, not to mention the season is much longer with Bow's. :)

I prefer the bow....It demands that you get close for the shot and that is truley the hunt....getting close..

it's my first year with archery equipment, and i can sure say that it's a lot more fun that gun hunting, and you sure get to see more game and get really close to them, and it's challenging.

pphoenix , you'll find that as you get into bow hunting it will become a passion that you'll keep in the forfront of your mind all year. Trying to figure out stealth in the woods and scent along with wind. I look at a patch of woods and if I see deer my mind is already working on how I would approch them.
Good Luck to ya.

I like them all. I like the excitement of dogs running a deer by and whaling away with my rifle. And I like the peace and quiet of bowhunting. They all have their pro's and con's.

Tye, I had my 1st experance with dog's. I was on stand down in Va. and I heard the dog then saw the deer , about a dozen doe's passed by about 25 yards out.
Seems like all the hunting is quite untill the shot is made except dogs.

Where I sit I see no one I hear no one. it's quite till I either pull the trigger on my gun or my cb. Only time I have to deal with noise is when I'm in a houseing areas removing deer, but that's not hunting it's just waiting for the deer to arrive at the corn.

Oh. Ok. :)

Sure it's hunting. You're just out-smarting them. ;)

I believe that we should enjoy all of the oppertunities we have to commune with mother nature. We should enjoy all the seasons First Bow till Gun Season then Back to bow then off to Muzzle Loader then finish with Bow. This is my first season in Twenty Five years witha bow and this Bow Hunting thing is a lot tougher then I had remembered but I still have a few weeks of bow. Current score one doe and one spike buck with the shotgun and a second spike buck that I shot because it was wounded and I thought that it was the right thing to do. Last Monday at this time I was sliding an old 10 Point Buck out that I shot (Spinal tapped) at 210 yards laser checked. The recoveries are as they all should be a few feet from where I shot, three of the Deer were Spinal Tapps and the doe was a sabot throught the heart (she was running at the time). We all spend a lot of resourses both Time & Money hunting and the Deer deserve nothing less then our best effort. Spend time with your weapon of choise know its limitations, and then harvest your deer with the case and respect that each deer deserves

 I know but it's still a waiting game. Sometimes I just sit and watch them for the fun of it. Well most of the time anyway. :)
