Geese!!!

Post by cubb »

Hey guys this is exactly a crossbow question. But just wondering how to take care of the meat that i harvested tonight, went out on a goose hunt tonight, shot two. Just wondering if i should soak the meat on salt water before freezing or don't worry about it? I'm not sure what to do. Another first for me? Thanks

This time of the year you should be able to clean rinse and freeze. Did you breast them or pluck?. This time of the year they look beautiful plucked and the have a nice layer of grain fat to baste the meat as it cooks.

Why would you want to soak them in salt water? That will only draw out moisture making them dry after cooking.

Wash them, and freeze them.

I cook them on the bar-b-q. I cut the breasts into strips and wrap them in bacon held in place with tookpicks, and then cook them on the grill.

I hate to be a dummie but I don't have a copy of the regs and I thought the season closed on Dec 31. Is it open still in Southern Ont?

I'm not a goose hunter but I think there's a season in WMU 94 until Jan 4
and another season in Feb 21-28 in Southwestern Ontario. If I'm reading
the online reg's corectly.

You must have them confused with fish eating ducks, the geese wont taste bad.

Southern district used to close Dec. 31. It was extended to Jan. 4 about three years ago.

I noticed in Ohio's regs you can not shoot migratory birds with an xbow. I wonder why, Canadian Geese have overrun many areas, I would think they would open it up to all hunters.

They are about the only migratory bird you could kill around here with an xbow.

I think it would be pretty hard to shoot one with a bow? they move off into the water when you come near them? I use 12ga. with #1 shot 2 3/4in
