Unstring during off season????

Re: Unstring during off season
There's two hex screws/bolts that secure each pad to the dissipators bars. All you need is a 9/64" Allen key/wrench to remove them and then slide the pads off.Bruno-TL wrote:Oops. My exomag has been unstrung since Oct 1. I am not sure I know how to remove the rubber pads.
How do you determine that the existing pads are damaged?

Let's hear from the Manufacturer on this issue.
1.) When if ever should we remove the string?
2.) How often and what tolerances should the pads have before being replaced?
3.) If the crossbow needs to be unstrung then why do the dissipator bars need to come off?
Please explain

States that the string should come off if you will not be shooting the bow for a period of months..
Also according to #8 of the safety precautions in the Excalibur instruction manual states to unstring the bow if it is going to be exposed to high heat such as in a car trunk on a hot day.. #8 also goes on to state that if you are going to unstring the bow and the bow has dissipator bars on it, then remove the dissipator pads before unstringing the bow. The pads need to come off because once the string has been removed and the limbs are relaxed, then the pressure of the limbs on the pads will crush them, making them useless.
Just bought mine, so I still have the manual!

I'm a little suprised at the number of people who see this as a limb issue. It's string life that I'd be more worried about. The constant flexing of the limbs from normal shooting will cause exponentially more wear on them than storing them under a bit of tension. Much like springs, they wear out from use not tension. And really, the tension is not that great. Put a scale on your string and pull just hard enought to make it move and you'll see just how little tension there is there.

A couple of minutes wont make any difference.ALINALBERTA wrote:A quick question,do you need to remove the pads if you are just changing strings? If using a stringer it obviously wouldn't matter, but if doing it by hand, when the limbs are totally relaxed for a couple minutes, would that damage the pads?
