Portable generator question?

Post by A.W »

Costco has a 2800 watt generator for $400.00.

Has anyone heard of "Champion" generators?

Sorry A.W. have not heard of Champion Generators. This is a bad time to be looking as the prices go up in the winter time.

I have a Coleman 5500 with battery charger, 2 120V outlets and 1 220 outlet cost was $400.00 + tax, have a 3500 with same outlets and got it at BigLots for 299.00 and have a 1500 for emgy. road troubles with a charger and two 120 outlets and got it fer 150.00.

Inless you feel you need it ASAP I would shop around some more. What are your plans for it ? at the camping site or a back up for home ?

Gary. Mostly for up at the property. It will run my A/C if I need it in the summer. WE don't get many power outs in Toronto but you never know.

The Coleman 1850 is a nice little portable unit but wont run much and costs a bit more.

I believe Champion is an off shore Honda knock off. My main concern would be the availability of parts should it need repair. Check out some reviews from Cabelas.

They put all kinds of names on those off-shore units, I have one for my camper, a 1200 watt. I use it 2 times a year, once for a fishing tourney runs 24 hours a day for 4 days, the other time is Barrie automotive flea-market, I turn it off at night up there, but still a 4 day event.
I say go for it, they work good, but not as good (quiet/stable)as a big name..
For the house I only use Honda.

The 2800 would be better then the 1800 for the air, might want to check the air and see what it takes to kick it on .... :D

Being in Canada you may want to check your local Princess Auto, they carry them as well, with the "King" name on them though..

If your not in a rush, I would highly recommend a honda inverter series EU2000 they are extreamly quite (wisper quite) Great for tents. Might be better instead of scaring game. The 2000 is nice a portable infact lighter than a battery and about 2ft long x 1wide x 1high . They all have a idle control that will save gas (never buy a generator without on unless on construction, intermittant use or back up power.) these honda's run for approx 8 hours on 1 tank. They also have a 1000 and a 3000. But I admit they are pricy starting at approx. $1,099.00 here in Ontario, but well worth it.
VERY IMPRESSIVE

1000 series $1,099.00
2000 series $1,749.00
3000 series $2,383.00

I'm still shopping around for a generator. Is anyone familiar with 4 hp Mitsubishi OHV gas engines?

Crappy Tire has this generator on sale at the moment.
