want to make my own strings - help needed

had excal factory - excel strings braking,
the first after 300 shots
the second after40 shots,

now i want to make my own,

need a little advice considering
material and making the strings

i would like to make dacron strings
endless loop or fast flight - which would be the longer lasting type?

would this material do?

Brownell Dacron B 50 1/4 LBS

how many strands would I need using this?

would i need a monofilament to protect the loops at the end of the string too?

i already have a serving tool and serving material for center serving which i already made myself.

hope you can help me especially purchasing the right material
because no string means no practicing with my bow.....

I use both type strings, and can't see a huge difference in durability.
I mostly make endless loop because it's easier. I use 30 strands of Brownell B-50 for my string and serve the loops with regular old Brownell nylon serving material. For the center serving I use the heavy crossbow serving that is rosin coated (same as you get on factory strings). The B-50 & nylon serving can be found at most archery shops, but I had to have the local pro-shop owner order the crossbow center serving for me. I don't have it in front of me, but I believe it's BCY brand.

the 1/4 lbs type of Brownell B 50?
what is the specification of your nylon material for the end loops?

I keep the stringmaking tools in my shop, so I donn't have them here to look at.

No!
It might indicate there is some problem with the crossbow! I have heard of the claws being rough (a tiny burr or something) and cutting into the string/serving. If that's the case I'd call Excalibur's customer service for help.

and tar heel,

it´s a very good and helpful explanation how to make the center serving,
but what i´m still asking myself is if and how i could
do the servin for the end loop by myself,
or if i better should make a flemish string with dacron ( think no protecting serving for the tip part of the string is needed there - am i right?)

could you tell me which type of string would be the easiest to make for me?- with which one should a beginner start?

ps. have not noticed any anything rough on the claws - think theyre ok!
first string lasted approx 250 to 300 shots before first filament broke
continued shooting from then on until ca 10 filaments broke. then changed the string for my second which lasted only 40 shots until first filament broke - dont know why so soon.......

Lisa,
Is your string striking the server? The second string could have settled too low on the brace height and started striking the server . . .if so, then 40 shots is about right. Of course, it could have just been a bad string.

Anyway, I had a problem with my string hitting the riser and causing premature breakage. If that's the issue, then there are a couple of solutions.
