New member & new to crossbows

Post by Al »

Just thought I’d introduce myself as I’m new to this forum. I’ve been hunting for many years and had never been exposed to crossbows until last fall when hunting with my brother in law. He brought out his crossbow and we spent some time firing bolts into a target, I was impressed with the accuracy and consistent shot placement... I didn’t sleep much that night thinking I GOTTA GET ME ONE OF THOSE, I was hooked! Since then, I started doing 2 things, saving pennies and researching which crossbow I would buy. I was initially leaning towards a Tenpoint and also a Horton, while not to take anything away from these fine crossbows, I was drawn to the simplicity, reliability, customer service and above all accuracy of the Excalibur recurve. After reading what seems endless threads on various makes, I decided that Excalibur would be my choice. I'm anxiously awaiting my vortex which my local dealer should be receiving in the next couple of days. Along with the crossbow, I’ve ordered the right stuff standard pkg, I’m still saving pennies for the scope which I hope to add before the fall hunt. Can’t thank this forum enough for the insight it’s provided.

YOU WONT BE SORRY,THATS THE SAME SET-UP i GOT AWHILE AGO..
After you shoot it afew times the scope is a must,Iam going to sight my pin to 35yrds(July 4th) and see how hight I am at 20 yrds.Ive bow hunted for 24 yrs now(bow only)and I still dont see me takeing a shot past 25-28 yrds, most of my shots are around 16-24 yrds.
And yes Iam saveing my change for a scope.119.00 scope, plus rings and mount......I also have a 10 point Pro Fusion....since I cant shoot bow anymore for a few yrs I desided to get the best of RECURVE and Compound crossbows........In my book anyway........

Dont tell anyone....I like my VORTEX the BEST....SHHHHHHHHHHH.....

Hi AL & welcome!!
I have only been a member of the forum for a short while but have had my Excalibur Exomax for 2 seasons, wish i had joined the forum right from the start because there is a wealth of knowledge here from the members and they are very nice people and will help you out with anything you need to know.
You made the right choice going for an Excalibur and i enjoy shooting my Exomax just as much as i did when i first bought it.
Happy Hunting

Thanks everyone for the welcome, I know I'll be posting questions about the crossbow and future accessories/upgrades, I've already seen on this forum a couple of items that caught my interest...FFF string and carbon bolts...what did I get myself into!!! :D

Is that a quiver mount, and if so how does it differ from the excal mount?

Thanks.
