How Sharp Is Sharp
I got some slick tricks in a couple of days of go, so I put one together. When I checked the sharpness of the blade it did not feel sharp to me. Well not as sharp as I thought it should be. It had a angle on less of a degree , my pocket knife is sharper. I like the head fine ,these are the first I have every had. So they may be fine, just sharpen different from the way I sharpen a pocket knife. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Slicks
Hey old buddy hear you're bit under the weather. As far as sharpness try stropping the blades on a leather covered with fine gritt abbrassive, jewelers polish. Works for me. There has been much discussion on sharpenin slicks and montecs lately on the forum check out these different threads.

Slick Trick suggests the Lansky sharpener. That is what I use and they turn out sharper than belief with some gentle strokes with the fine diamond stone. The Lansky does an A1 job on all my knives I might add.

Polecat,
The 125g Slick Trick Magnums I bought this year were sharpe enought to shave hair with effort. IMO I like my knifes and braodheads to be able to easily shave hair. Unfortunately most knives and broadheads don't come from the factory sharp enough.
Here is a great video that shows how to use the strop and stropping compound on the Slick Trick broadheads. It will help give you a general idea of the process. It is now the only process I use for my broadheads and my knives. It is amazing how sharp you can make them.

I bought a leather strop and some polish from Smokey Mountian Woodcarvers.
The strop was $4.00 :

The stropping I use is called Yelowstone and is $6.25

I know a man whose nocked arrow fell off his bowstring, landed in the weeds pointing toward him, and completely penetrated his mid-thigh just from him walking into it.
The head was one of those beloved old Bear Razorheads.
Now that's sharp!
Be careful out there!
The man in question is now a Conservation Officer, and annually exhorts bowhunters to refrain from walking around with nocked arrows!

And take it from me - you need to be afraid of your hunting heads! Cut a tendon in my right hand with a stupid accident with a Magnus BH prior to picking up the crossbow. The hand will never be the same and all from just pushing it on the end of a wood shaft and my hand slipping. Dumb mistake but something that happened with just a momentary lapse in judgement. Be safe - and keep them SHARP!bstout wrote:If you're not afraid of your hunting heads, they're not sharp!
