Therma Cell Tip

Post by awshucks »

I've been told you can buy the butane carts dirt cheap at Wal-Mart in the ladies hair curler dept. Apparently they are the same, at a fraction of the cost of the Therma Cell ones. I've not used mine yet, but have some hunters here w/ their bargain purchases, worth checking out.

Awshucks,

I looked at them the other day in Walmart, they even say right on the package "for use in Thermal Cells". They were located in the Hairdryer/Curling Iron section. Price was $6 and some change for 2 cartridges.

Sorry, Woody! This is second hand info, but these two guys swear they are saving alot of money in hair dept. I've never had to fire mine up yet, but they claim they have pads left over when butane is shot, so can get by w/ cheapies. I'd guess you just match the size up??

I believe the ones I get from Wal-Mart are Conair brand & yes they do work :D

I usually have 1 pad left over from each single refill kit as I use mine in the backyard all the time.

I have posted this before. You can get 12 butane cartridges on ebay very cheap! the repellant pads last longer than the butane so get a case. when it turns cold use your thermacell for a killer body warmer. They work great under your jacket and keep you warm no matter what the temp gets.here is a sample of the butane cartridges on ebay.

I recall a post some time ago that someone mention putting a drop or two of scent into their Thermal Cell. Does anyone recall what scent they used.

I use either acorn, persimmon, or earth scent depending on the time of the season and what natural foods are available on my thermacell. I couldnt handle the urine smell right next to me. All you need is just a drop or two as it will last about 1/2 an hour each time. The heat magnifies the scent and works great with cover scents while repelling the bugs. You dont want an estrus scent near you as you might get busted and find a buck in the stand with you!

I just put a few drops of scent on the repellant pad as you are hunting in your blind or stand. It sends out alot of scent and still keeps the bugs away!!!
