what's your average shot distance when hunting?

Post by kevin »

looking back to my old stick bows and now crossbows I don't think I've ever took a shot past 25 yards at a deer, if that. Most seem to be 15 or so for an average.

It's pretty thick where I hunt and if I set up on on a field fence row I can get close also.

I'm curious on what distance most of us get our Deer.

Furthest shot was 27 yards, most were 10 to 20 yards.

My one and only was 30 yards. I'd say overall with guns is 45.

On average about 25-30 yards with bows. I don't like them to get too close. The angles get much more difficult once they get inside of 15 yards.

most with my excalibur shots are between 20 to 35 , I have taken deer out to 53 yds, in field's when conditions are wright . different speeds set your range , always expect the worst before you take the shot , then decide if you want to take the shot . remember there is always another day , and there is no shortage of deer to shoot

The average would be 20 yds. with the range of 5-25 yards of all the shots.I don`t hunt fields ,so in the swamps the shots are close .

17.5 yards.

That is 7 shots from 7 yards to 42 yards.

Most well within the magical 20 yards mark..

I was starting to think I set up to close on Deer until your post.

I like to set up for an 18-22 yard shot, of course each setup is different. I would rather stretch things out to 30 then have them closer than 15 yards.

This evening the little 6 point was sniffing around straight down from my stand. I've gave him 3 free passes now. Gave a small racked 8 a pass opening weekend. I hope these young fella's wise up before gun season, those guy's are'nt as nice as I am.
