Boiler Room Scores - A special buck
Hey guys,
Thought I would share this story and pics of a buck I took on Friday, November 9th. I'm on dial-up internet here at the cottage so only 2 pics, it took nearly 2 hours to upload them to photobucket!
There's a very special watch that I have here, it was my father's favourite watch. In a gulley, at the base of a large cliff, with a swamp behind it, and a nice creek to the right. We spread some of my father's ashes there as he always wanted this summer. He passed suddenly in June 2006.
Well, this year I was sitting at the base of his pine tree which we put a plaque on, and it was 3 pm. I just had a feeling that it was going to be a great afternoon. I felt very confident, peaceful, and oddly, happy. After 2 sets of rattling and grunting a couple of times, I put the noisemakers away and enjoyed the stillness of that special place. One small noise, and I knew there was something behind me. I turned to the right and couldn't believe it. A beautiful buck approaching, about 100 ft away. Now here is the wild part.
He was travelling in the same direction, and was nearly in the EXACT spot as the buck I took last year and posted here. It was one hour later than last year. I took him down less than 5 feet from the same place as last year. It was the first time I was able to sit there this year. Arrived at noon and there he was, down at 3!! This is also the place I took my first buck, that my Dad had pushed out to me. In some way, I feel he is still pushing them out.....anyways, here he is: 175 lbs field dressed, and an 18.5 inch spread. Kenton, this one is for team Boiler Room.
And thanks again for all the pointers you guys! Good luck!

Nice mature buck, Alaspan!
He's got it all ... nice rack (beautiful symmetry), topknot, droopy jowls, straight back, pinched waist ... he lived long enough to grow up. To my eye, only an older buck "looks right" as a trophy.
You did good.
Glad it happened where it did, and when!
