Chocolate 8 pointer

Post by DesertRat »

I took this 8 pointer this weekend with my Exocet. He came through the bush at 5pm and latched on to a Tinks#69 Doe in Heat drag that I put down with a stick. He walked right into a slight quartering to shot but I managed to get both lungs without getting into the liver or stomach. 100 yard recovery.

The flash has washed some of the colour out on the antlers but in the daylight, they are cocoa brown. Saw his much much bigger brother last night. Hope to meet/meat him soon.

The deer was taken by Guelph.

Buckshot, I learned a little bit about pictures with this deer. One of my buddies has an album of his harvests and the harvests of all his buddies. He was one of the fellows that helped me haul the deer out of the bush. Before the pics were taken, he stuffed the tongue back in the mouth and used leaves to clean up any external blood. It makes for a much nicer picture. The deer at that point had been gutted and positioned so the gutpile is out of the picture and cleaned up so there isn't a bloody animal front and center. From now on, I will be sure to follow those simple steps.
