Gimmick ?

Post by raydaughety »

One of the things that I received on my trip was a scent machine  Now, I'm a skeptic when it comes to these scents and stuff but I actually had a small forked horn buck come to this thing and had an absolute fit. I had put it out this afternoon on the edge of a cut corn field with the wind blowing from the corn field into a thick pine field. This little four pointer busted out into the field on a dead run. He stopped about 75 yards into the field and turned around, looking back to where he had just come out. Well, my first thought was that a larger buck had chased him off and I got ready to shoot. But he took off again and ran right back to the edge of the field. Ya'll, I had TOTALLY forgot that I had put that machine out until that little buck stuck his nose right up against it and took off again, running in a circle, coming back to the machine again. I could not believe what I was seeing. That deer just lost his mind. I'm not kidding. It was unbelievable. At one point, he almost stood up on his hind legs trying to get to the machine. Maybe it's just that time of the rut that they will respond to anything, I don't know. I'll tell you this though, that machine will be hanging down wind of a ridge that has a lot of scrapes on it in the morning. I'm taking the camera this time  I'm really interested to see if it happens again. Has anyone ever heard of this thing?

Almost forgot, here it is : http://www.commonscents.biz

im on dialup and cant get the vid to load.. but thermacell makes a scent dispensor also..

im sure it works since anything that puts scent into the air will work during the rut;)

i just like using the buck bombs;) Other than those, I dont fool with scents

I hear ya Crazy, but what I really like about this thing is that the scent is stored in a aerosol can that has a 4 year shelf life. It has a timer that gives a burst of spay at whatever interval that you want it to from every 5 minutes to every twenty five minutes. It has a light sensor that shuts it off after the sun goes down and starts spraying again in the morning. I'll find out if what happened this afternoon was a fluke or this thing really does work. I've got a ridge that is tore up with scrapes that hasn't been touched on the farm that I'm going to hunt early in the AM.

Ray,

I will be interested to know how it works out for you in the AM. I have never had much luck with scents. Good luck tomorrow.

Keep us updated on the results, Ray. Could be a very good product in some situations (like the rut). Last year I tried doe urine in a "boiler" which simply simmered the urine in a small pan and the vapor put out a very strong scent. Had mixed results, but it did definately attract bucks in some situations.
It might really be attractive if you added a doe decoy!

Wabi, it would be awesome to have a decoy but it's going to be difficult enough getting myself to the blind. My uncle is going to hunt in my blind at a corn field so he'll be close enough to help if I get one . I'll be able to get within 200 yards of my blind in the morning with my wheelchair, I'll just take my time and sneak in early and quiet.

HEY RAY,
I USED A SIMILAR CONTRAPTION THAT USED A FAN TO DISPERSE SCENT AT SPECIFIED INTERVALS. FOR SOME REASON I AM NO LONGER USING IT. THE BIG QUESTION IS HOW MUCH DO THE SCENT CANS COST AND HOW LONG DO THEY LAST? AND IS THE SCENT WORTH A DAMN? YOU NEED TO EMAIL ME ASAP ABOUT THAT HUNT I SENT YOU INFO ON.
