FINALLY! Late season score (pic)

Post by Outdoorz »

I have had the worst season to date this year. Almost opportunities, deer coming around the wrong way, deer coming but then something else spooking them, you name it. I think I've put in about 40 sessions on different stands with zippo results. And this after a season last year where I harvested a nice buck and a doe, both on my first time on the stand, both within and hour of getting there. This year was different!

Last evening I was sitting a huge oak tree in a brushy field overlooking a trail in the snow and this nice doe came walking at 5:20. She gave me a quartering away shot at 22 yds. My arrow entered high at the hip on her right side, went up through her body, smashed a left-side rib and was stopped by the left shoulder. It never exited. She ran 90 yards with it in her and lights out. The broadhead is in great condition after that and the Easton carbon shaft snapped clean near the broadhead as she ran. Nice big mature doe, probably 3 or 4 years old.

Shot her with my Vortex. I LIKE IT. Bill T. for President!
I also have to say this expedition fleece from BPS is worth EVERY penny in the wind and c-o-l-d.

NIce to see! I can relate to your problems Outdoorz! I killed a doe two years ago after 1 hour on the first day of the season. I knew it would be difficult to replicate that feat but man ...... I've had a brutal year despite lots of effort.

Congrats, but if you shot that deer at 5:20 pm, I think you were 10 minutes passed legal shooting time.

I never wear a watch. It was in legal shooting time. No night vision... I'm still stuck in a month ago when last shooting light was 5:30 pm.

By the way, for the bean counters, www.weathernetwork.com indicates 4:45pm in this latitude as sunset so last shooting light is 5:15 here, not 5:10.

Correction: she came walking in at about 5:05pm. (I shot her one minute later)
