Christmas Eve Doe

Post by Buck Fever »

I decided to try hunting at my buddies in Dunrobin, I didn't think there were alot of deer there. I was wrong!!! My first trip out was Saturday, I promised my wife I would leave by 4. As I walk in there was a deer next to my stand. I was walking in with my climber, trail cam and crossbow. Not much of a chance to stalk in :)

So I set the cam and found a tree that only need a little trimming. I sat there and a buck fawn comes in followed by mutiple other deer, the problem was they didn't arrive till 3:45. So I had 5 deer within 20 yards of me ( 3 fawns,1 small doe and 1 big doe) but didn't shoot to keep my time promise to my wife and kids (We were going to the Sens game). I had to scare them off so I could leave.

Today being Christmas eve, work let us go by noon. I decided to go back. As I walked in there was a fawn at the bait pile. I walked in slowly so I wouldn't scare it too badly. After about an hour a buck fawn came in for about 10 min but I passed on the shot. 3:45 a doe fawn arrived and ate for 45 minutes till another doe fawn joined it. I was cursing my luck. Finally I see the 2 deer look behind me. I sat and waited, mommy came out. She was the big doe I was waiting for. She came in the open about 12 yards from me and the Slick trick did it's job. She ran 50-60 yards in a c shape and died 20 yards behind my stand. Of course I was late for Christmas dinner, but it was worth it! Here are some pics
