THINGS ARE HEATING UP HERE! OUR RUT STARTS NEXT WEEK AND ALSO THE END OF JAN. I SCREWED UP ON A TEN POINT WITH A DROP TINE LAST WEEK AND AM STILL GOING THROUGH WITHDRAWALS ABOUT IT! I CANT BRING MYSELF TO WRITE ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW BUT I MAY SOMETIME LATER, AS YOU NEVER SEE A DROP TINE HERE . OUR SEASON STARTED SEPT 8 IN SOUTH FLORIDA, I GUESS WE HAVE SO MANY DEER THAT IT TAKES 6 MONTHS TO KEEP THEN IN CHECK. THE AVERAGE 3 YEAR OLD BUCK DOWN HERE RUNS ABOUT 140-150 POUNDS BUT I NORMALLY TAKE 2 OR 3 AROUND 180-200 POUNDS EACH YEAR. MY HEALTH HASNT BEEN WELL LATELY AND I AM GOING THROUGH A SEPARATION SO I HAVE TAKEN ONLY "CULL" BUCKS SO FAR. I AM WAITING TILL THE RUT TO HUNT FOR THE MATURE BUCKS AROUND MY HOME TO KEEP THEM FROM GOING NOCTURNAL. YOU ARE THE GUYS THAT HAVE ALL THE REALLY "BIG" BOYS THAT I LOVE TO HUNT!!! I'M THE ONE THAT IS JEALOUS FOR THAT!!! THERE IS SOMEWHAT OF A MYTH THAT FLORIDA DEER ARE "NO BIGGER THAN DOGS" BUT THAT IS NOT TRUE. BELOW IS THE LARGEST BUCK I HAVE TAKEN IN FLORIDA, BUT THEY DO GET BIGGER.

THEY GET CUT UP AND GO IN THE COOLER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WHEN THE TEMPS ARE OVER 45 DEGREES. THIS ONE WAS A PROBLEM AS HIS CAPE AND HORNS WOULD NOT FIT IN MY COOLER. I HAD TO PUT THE SKIN IN AND COVER THE REST WITH A BLANKET TO TAKE HIM TO THE TAXIDERMIST THE NEXT DAY. HE WAS ONE OF 3 TEN POINTS I SHOT IN 3 CONSECUTIVE DAYS I WENT IN THE WOODS! IT HELPS TO KNOW HOW TO CALL THEM IN.
