FINALLY - pictures added

Post by WAB »

I have been hunting deer now for many years with a rifle or shotgun. A couple of years ago I got a Exomax. I had not had any sucess over these two years. The first year I seen so many deer, I was letting the does and the smaller ones go waiting for a nice buck to come along, he never did and the does disappeared from my area...skunked. Last year basically the same thing. This year I decided to go with the "if it is brown it is down" theroy, the area has been littered with tracks but I had not seen one. Getting depressed about not even seeing one since early season, I went out yesterday afternoon. Walking to my stand I seen no foot prints in the field, none on the main trail, but figured might as well stay anyway. I approached the small trail leading to my stand to find that the trail was not a trail but had become a highway in the last two days. I climbed the stand that overlooks this path and settled in. Just before 5, I heard a small crack off to my right. I sat waiting for the squirel to show it self, but rather it was two does strolling down the path right to me. The first doe got to within 20 yards of me and right in my shooting lane. Double lung shot with a recovery of about 15 yards. As I climbed down I realized that I had something watching me, the other doe was standing on the trail about 60 yards away. She stayed there until I walked out to the trail.
Finally my first crossbow deer!!! I have waited a long time for it to happen and it was just like I imagined it would be like all the times I sat up in the stand. Will post pics soon.

Another local!
Congrats on the deer, hope there are many more out there for you.

Will we see you at the meet at Cutchies in January?

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!
Archery might not be the fast way to fill the freezer, but it sure makes it feel special to get one that way.

Congrats on the doe Bill.

At least you are getting out, I have not had a very good season as my mother inlaw has not been well & have been back & forth to Southampton to many times to remember :( and then I come down with a terrible cold but hopefully will get at least one more chance.

Once again congrats.

Pics added for WAB (not wabi, my forum name - gets confusing but my name is from my Shawnee name and I believe WAB is simply initials - two different members here but one willing to help another as is the norm for this forum!)

Anyway, congratulations again WAB - nice looking doe!
