Moultrie Service sucks!!!

Post by Buck Fever »

I bought the Moultrie Game Watcher 4.0 Digital Game Camera in September 2007. So far the pictures it has taken have been great. But I have 2 problems with it. The first and most importantly is the fact that the attachment portion of case has broken off when I was attaching the game camera to the tree. The second problem is understandable. I live in Canada and it is cold :). Several times when the weather went below -10 degrees Celcius. The camera stopped working but the green light stayed on. I needed to remove the batteries to reset it. and start over again. So no pics were taken.

So I wrote to Moultrie to find out what they would do about the broken case and if they had any suggestions regarding the batteries.

They wrote back
the case is not cover over warranty. But we do have a security-bear proof box you could put your camera in. The cost of it is $59.99 or a new case will be $25.00. In extreme temps. It will affect the battery and hence the operation of the circuit board and sensors. So take out batteries and make sure to put good hot batteries in it.
So not only do they not warranty or stand behind their product, they try to sell me more of their questionable products. The battery thing is understandable but I don't think -10 is extreme temps

Their claim was that I overtightened the bungies, which was not the case.

Anyways be warned DO NOT BUY MOULTRIE PRODUCTS!!!!!

That's funny, I've had great customer service from them. They had me send back a Gamespy camera last year because I didn't think the sensor was working properly and sent me a brand new one back. I have also heard on here and different forums of their great customer service.

That sucks about your camera though. I would call them on the phone and be a little more aggressive. Sometimes a phone call will yeild different results to people than writing or e-mailing. It's easy to tell people "NO" in writing. That problem is something they should cover I think, as long as it wasn't abused.

I don't know if a ton of people would agree with "DO NOT BUY MOULTRIE PRODUCTS!!!!!"

Good luck B.F.

i bought one of their spreaders for my atv, but later sold it. During use their service was decent, but it would take them 7-8 days to reply to my emails about the product.

I got a D40 for Christmas and it is shutting down at about 2 degrees above freezing. I guess it is a early fall camera only. I have heard lots of people have problems with their cameras. I wish they built a more reliable unit.

In my experience with dealing Moultrie the service has been great ! I have sent in my Game Spy 200 twice now and each time they replace it with a NEW camera. Since the GS200 had become obsolite, they sent me a 2007 M40 instead. I have had this camera out in the woods since Dec. and it has produced some great pics and it has worked very well in the cold.

As for the case breaking, if it broke where the strap goes through at the back of the case, they will not warranty it because it was tighten too much, improper mounting and in the cold temperatures we have to be carefull in dealing with plastic.

I currently have 2 moultrie cameras.
They both dont work in cold temps.
I originally thought the 6 volt batteries were shutting down or draining empty but this was quickly ruled out as i use the same rechargeable batteries on my feeder.
The moultrie rep suggested putting a sock or hand warmer next to the batteries,i dont think they really realize how cold -10 is.
So needless to say i dont use my cameras when its cold,,,cause they dont work in cold weather.

I made an iron cage(lockable/screws into tree) for my Moultrie. Don't need the bungees. But why make a product that can't withstand an "overtightened" bungee that they supplied?

Cold temps?

Ya'll mean like, say, 50 F or so? :D

By the way ... we got snow last night ... about 2:00 AM! Had about 1/16" accumulation on elevated surfaces. Was all gone by 5:00!

Moultrie was the worst of the 3 brands I have tried although bushnell was a pretty close 2nd. Everyone that I personaly know that had one had trouble with it and returned them but they were good about taking them back with refund. I have had 4 trouble free years with my stealthcam, even at -20c however with 12 volt auxillary power is required for below zero operation. Even with 12 volt auxillary for moultrie the circuts will not function in these temps. So anything that will not work in the cold is useless in this part of the world unless you can afford to have one for warm weather and one for cold lol.
