Just got in a wrestling match with a deer.

Post by Pydpiper »

Got home from my morning appointments to a call from a guy in the city with a small deer trapped in his back yard.. Knowing there wasn't much I could do I went anyways, I decided a few years ago I would no longer try to man handle a live deer.
The little bugger was pretty weak, I tried to get it to jump back over the 6' fence (they are all frozen/snowed shut) but to no avail. With authorization from the MNR I got a hold of it and managed to bind it.
This is the second deer I have tried this with, the first took me for a pretty good ride before I flew off, this little guy gave in pretty easy.
I had to transfer it out of his yard, and I am a bit worried about it now.
I sometimes forget how beautiful these creatures are, having a wild one let out a "baaaa" then tuck it's head into you can be a bit of an eye opener. It was going to starve to death back there, and had no way out.
Took a few pictures, I will post them later, right now I am still trying to calm down.

That little one really does need some help... Good Job!!!....

I got to hog tie a 6 pt buck one time that a fellow caught in his backyard....With the help of some 4 other guys we transported it to a wooded section about 5 miles away... When we hauled it out of the back of the truck , the other guys held it down while I untied it... I counted to 3 and everybody got off the buck at the same time.... Once the thing realized it was free it jumped up and ran about 10yds away, stopped and looked around for quite a while and then it simply walked off into the woods, as if it was no big deal......

Very strange indeed!!....

When I released it I had both of my kids with me, the deer was exhausted. It didn't get up and run away they way I thought it would, which is what made me feel terrible.
We brought it some sliced apple and a handful of corn. On approach it stood up, took a wobbly run at my son, swatted him with it's front leg. My son was so proud! first time he's been attacked by a deer. :D
It immediately began to eat the apples so we left it alone.
