Post by awshucks »

To make a very very long story short, if you have been having or ever do have any spyware problems, check this FREE site out. I am impressed.

There are a variety of free spyware programs available. The one that I have found to catch the most have been from Grisoft. They also have a free antivirus program that is also good. If you are on broadband and don't use a router (your connection goes from the modem into the computer) you should use a firewall. I have found that Zone Alarm works well for me. It is also free. Here are the links:

All of the above are totally free.

I'll 2nd Bob's advice! AVG/Grisoft is a very good choice, IMO.

I always used Ccleaner, AVG I think. Ran it yesterday before I downloaded the Superantispyware.
The superantispyware program found an additional 90 little programs plus 2 larger ones that have apparently been on my computer for a long time.
It was a half hour download on my dial-up, but worth it.

I had a good AVG setup, along w/ Spybot. My puter guru tried a few others, Smithfraud ect.
If you ever end up w/ stuff your personal choice of Ajax won't take off, try this. I am the absolute last person in the world qualified to give anyone advice on their computers, and I personally think the sob in France that screwed mine up ought to be shot, guess this is my little way of getting back at the b*stards.

In the past I would always recommend someone to scan for spyware with both Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D. Then I would recommend using any antivirus software as long as it's kept up to date. AVG is the best free antivirus, while I have always had the best luck with Norton Antivirus as a commercial product.

Here recently, Ad-Aware seems to be doing a better job on it's own without Spybot. The most important thing is to never go without a virus detector and always keep your windows software as well as your spyware and antivirus software up to date.

My main job title is Graphic Designer for a TV Garden show, but I have a second job title. About seven years ago I recieved a "promotion by attrition" and took on more responsibilities as System Administrator. We are a small production company, but today I manage 30 computers.
I turned my hobby which was repairing computers into a second job and into a small computer repair business that I do on the side.
I'm ready to retire!!!
