Bolts for Turkey Hunting

I'm thinking about using my Excal to hunt turkeys. One person locally suggested a longer bolt so I could add a Grappler (not sure of the name). Only other suggestion was to remove the stirrup but then loading is a problem. I'm sure someone knows the answer on this board. Ideas?

Yep I know what you are talking about. but your terminology is a little off.

-Grapplers are small, and therefore are not a problem on standard sized bolts. A LOT of users here use their regular head, plus a grappler to slow the bolt down.

- You seem to be confused with the Gobbler Guillotine.

The Guillotine is gigantic, and therefore must be shot with either a longer bolt, or as you said by removing the stirrup before each shot (but after loading)

I However would NOT recommend the Guillotine. too much trouble, for an inaccurate, and expensive head. I would either stick with the grapplers, or the new Rocket Turkey Tom-O-Hawk.

3 1/2" Cutting diameter, 150Grain, almost matches the size of the Guillotine, but folds up so it doesn't have the same problems. obviously though... The Turkey Tom-O-Hawk is intended for body shots, while the Guillotine is intended for neck shots.

Last year someone posted a photo of their Excalibur with a hinged stirrup to accept the guillotines, I do not remember if he was successful with a turkey though.
With turkey season fast approaching I am sure we will see it again.

i use the same bolts that i use on deer,shoot them in the body just above the leg

Thanks guys. You're right Rage I did have the terms mixed up. A hinged stirrup.......always innovating on this board!

Isis had a very good idea for those Guillotines.

I use regular fixed 1-3/16" Hammer SST's for them. Seem to work well.

Those broadheads look leathal..
I thought about cutting the blades off of some 125 montecs and just leaving the tip and rear part making a built in grappler.

The Magnus Bullhead is a much better turkey head than the gullotine..
