Ten Point Flex

Post by Boo »

Well everyone. Excal has nothing to worry about if the Flex has anything to d with the Ten Point's bows. I bought one for the cottage because of it's ability to go from 90 to 180 lbs. It comes with a peep and pin set up but the cheep piece is too high to use the pins with any comfort. It is obviously well made but it looks clunky with sharp corners and edges. And Noisy! yes it is!
All in all, it is an inexpensive bow and not nearly as serious a bow as the lowest end Excalibur.
Oh yeah, it has a crappy looking string! :D

I'm sure you will have a better looking string on it before the weekend is over.

Ok, I've shot it some more and when cranked up this thing is freaking noisy!
The riser has sharp areas that will cut a string. The bow has no brace height marks. The comb is so high that the peep is completely useless. Other than that it's a nice bow, LOL! Someone pass me some mouth soap! The good part is that this bow will keep me busy!

Don

Here's a link to TenPoint's online Owners Manual with info on brace height for their Recurve crossbows. They do not use brace height marks on the barrel. Brace height must be measured with a ruler.

I read that but a person might just want some quick reference marks rather than carry a ruler around.

LOL, apparently this is what another Flex owner did to his bow to cut down on the noise by half. Man this is rude.
Here are some of the things that I did in an effort to eliminate as much noise as I could:

The foot stirrup rings like a bell. I covered it with 3 layers of stretchy rubberized tape.

The upper barrel is hollow. I injected those cavities with expandable rubberized foam.

There are 3 cavities in the fore end. I filled those with foam rubber.

The rear grip is hollow. I shoved a pc. of rubberized foam in that cavity.

There are a couple hollow spots in the part of the stock under the barrel. I filled those with foam rubber.

The 2 large holes in the riser (one on each side): I cut one "finger" off of an Alpha Shox and forced one into the hole on each side of the riser.

I installed 2 small Simms type rubber string silencers on the bowstring.

I installed an adhesive Limbsaver on the concave side of each limb about 4 inches from the riser.

I put a pc. of rubber shrink tubing over the arrow hold-down finger.

Results: I think I've cut the noise level in half but have no noise meter to prove it.............just my old ears:-)

I will be hunting with the bow a little this fall when going to far-off stands. It's a nice little hunting crossbow that's priced right.

BTW, the first thing I did to the Flex, as I did with the 2 Sliders, is cut about 3/8" off the top of the butt stcok and cover that section with a thin pc. of adhesive rubber pad. It's too high even for scopes IMO.
