O/T: OC Spray suks!

Post by crazyfarmer »

some of you know and some dont, but I work part time for the Sheriffs Department and ive been in school getting certified. I believe I got master of arms in the handgun and shotgun with 98% average on 5 coarses. But that aside, today was OC Spray day. Lemme tell you, that stuff SUKS! I have never felt pain like that. They take us one by one and stand 3 ft from us and let it fly, covering the face(forehead). I really cant describe the pain, but imagine a HOT frying pain being pressed on your face for 20mins. It took most of us(29 in class) roughly 15-20mins to start getting our eyes open. Roughly 45mins before you could actaully start keeping them open without burning. Its been 4 hours and my face is still on fire. So if anyone here is thinking of playing with the stuff, leave it alone. It does burn... IT burns ALOTTTTTTTTTTTTT  I know it ended up being about 5 times worse than I expected. Right after being sprayed we were guided to water which helped some, but its still a PITA trying to open your eyes. You see videos of some that the spray doesnt effect. Some of us didnt react as bad as others, but its definitly enough to knock you off your feet for a good 30mins

anyone in law enforcement here been sprayed?? we are all laughing about it now, but it was the worse 30-40mins of my life :!:

Are there differant strengths to the stuff? I watch alot of cops type reality videos and have seen alot of guys run or drive off after getting spray'd by the stuff. What is the differance?

Those guys are probably strung out on pcp, crack cocaine, or some other illegal substance that makes them seem invincible.

You see guys run off because they either didn't get a full shot, or they can tolerate it. I painted a guys face orange with the stuff one night, he licked it off and said "that tastes good, ya got any more?"

OC ain't to bad, OC mixed with CS now there is something to stay away from. Burns worse and then several hours later when you get home from training and take a shower, you get to experience it all over again cause the water reactivates it.

I've been hit more times with OC than I care to remember and most of the time it was an "accident" by one of my own guys.

If you wanna have real fun take a full 5 second ride on a Taser, that'll light up your life for awhile.

I've been a weapons instructor for 20 years and never could understand the reasoning behind make everyone take a hit. I know, it's so you know how it feels when you use it on a bad guy. I know it's going to hurt like he!!. I carry a gun too, does that mean I gotta get shot so I know how that feels?

huntin, i'd rather take the taser LOL. We cant use tasers here but I hope oneday they allow them. Those would be ideal for court use also! I think the biggest reason for us getting sprayed is incase it gets taken away and used on us, but like you said, the blowback effects are probably the biggest reason. However, I doubt we ever see enough blowback to justify covering our whole face

FL, PCP, drugs, and just being drunk are the biggest factors for those guys not feeling it. We have photos or someone beging shot 21 times with a 9mm before he dropped while on PCP! May I add that 4-5 shots were in the head

also, the shower part was right to. I didnt really wash my face, but I noticed that just the mist from the shower set it back off on my neck! Eyes still hurt, but its not bad at all now. I think the biggest part was going into it not knowing how you would react. Im sure everyone thought it was burning them worse than others, while in fact it hit us all the same. When it first hit me I didnt think I was gonna be able to make it to the water, but I did. Its just strange hearing other adults scream in pain from spray to so its kinda a shock factor.

anyhow, its over and done with... 3 more days of class and I get the papers LOL 8)

I look at it this way....When it came out they said that we had to be sprayed to carry it~! My response was "I carry a Sig Sauer.....Does that mean I have to be shot with it before I can carry it too?"

Just my opinion from up here in the cheap seats,

Only my opinion and noone elses~!

I understand that there are questions to the use of tasers but the one thing that the press seems to forget when reporting these incidents is that more often than not the next option available to police (say in the case of a person with a knife) is a double tap to centre mass with a 40 calibre where the outcome is 99.9% certain.

Just my opinion from up here in the cheap seats~!

I wont weigh in on the taser thing, but i do have some experience with tear gas and its just like what you said - at least 5 times worse than you expect.

It looks so harmless on TV, like a smoke bomb or something, so when the canister is smoking away 5' up wind you're totally unfazed... then it hits you and all of a sudden it feels like you're inhaling a fur coat covered in hot sauce, every part of your face that can, is spewing mucous and every natural instinct in your body is saying one thing "RUN!".

Its a real experience that i'd recommend anyone try out who's ever looked at people on TV getting gassed and run away like wild animals, and thought "man, what sissies!". Try it, you'll never think that again.

thats what I thought.. i knew the stuff was hot, but didnt expect it to be that HOTTT! My skins finally pealing off my eyelids now LOL. If anyone ever sprays someone in our department, im running out the door and then coming back 10 mins later. If he's still standing im just gonna shoot. Hell with the OC LOL :P

if anyone wants to feel pain, give it a try LOL. Im sure its some saying they can handle it.. I thought I could.. I was way wrong
