Can I use a laser pointer to help me sight it in, at 20yards...

yes, sometime I use it: give clicks up/down-left/right until you cover the laser light with your central scope reticul;
but consider that a normal laser pointer is not made for this use so exit light could be not so straight as you think.It help you for 1/2 work than you have to check using classic Saxman-Pydpiper system but with less steps
