Outraged

Post by raydaughety »

Today was the first day of middle school for Tyler and as usual, we made sure to read the dress code and all the other important stuff that you need to know so that's why I was shocked to get a call from the school saying that Tyler's shirt was tucked in as required but the shirt itself was " inappropriate" . At first I thought that it was a prank call but the teacher asked that he not wear the shirt to school again. This is the shirt that he was wearing:

Most of ya'll know me and what I stand for and the way that I've raised my kids. What have we come to? I really don't get it  . I may and will move him to a private school if I have to but feel that he should be educated in the "real world". Well, I guess we got what we asked for. His teacher said that she feared that he would be picked on for wearing the shirt. I told her " that's fine, he has someone watching out for him" .
God Bless !!!!!!!!!

i am suprised that they didn't tell you that they were really more concerned about offending someone else. it is a shame that education has taken a back seat to a social agenda.

Whats the word on wearing other religious symbols to class? can Sikh kids wear turbans and kirpans? Jewish kids kippah's? I dont see how a religious T-shirt is any different from a catholic wearing a cross around their neck.

I would fight that if i were you - sounds like political correctness running unchecked again.

But the confederate flag thing... well...

thats rediculous ray what happened to freedom of speech or freedom to express yourself. it sounds like they are making it out to be as bad as a racial slur or something. the way i see it a person should be able to express themselves and their beliefs whenever they want it should not be up to one person to deem what is considered acceptable bibles crosses confederate flags and anything else within reason if someone wears a kkk shirt to school or something then maybe the school should step in but for this thats a joke. i would be asking for a meeting with the principal or school board or let them know your stand on this one. just my opinionbut i stand behind yuor belief as well take care and good luck with whatever you decide to do about it

Ray,
I wouldn't let someone elses' social agenda impact your (or Tyler's) positive influence on the world. To say his shirt was inappropriate could only be based on personal opinion. Jeeptag's right, he has a legal right to wear that to school.

Spread the word.

Unfortunately, the minority rules. The majority remains silent taking apparent pity for the minority.

Here's some food for thought . . .think this way of thinking will continue?

If so, then we might stand a chance of running a sound political system in 2060 or so . . .

It's a sign of the times, Ray. I'm sad to say I'm not even surprised.

There are still a few public school systems that do not actively oppose Christian witness, but they are few and far between. Most administrations long ago caved in to political correctness and liberal agendas, and many vigorously oppose the least hint of Christian belief and committment in students. When it happens in New Bern, NC, you know how bad it has gotten.

I encourage you to sound off in protest, Ray ... with boldness and sincerity. Don't let it slide! You really should consider contacting the American Center for Law and Justice:

http://www.aclj.org/Default.aspx

They are experts in constitutional law, and specialize in defending your religious rights and freedoms. Their assistance is free. They love taking on institutions that bully believers. Check 'em out.

Fight the good fight, brother. Keep on keepin' on! :D

That is very sad but true nowadays, we can't even use the word "Christmas" in schools here or say The Lord's Prayer because we "might" offend someone. I am not sure how this happened but it will never go back to the way it was before, very sad that the "just in case" syndrome has taken over. Sorry to see it has happened to you too Ray. Hopefully you can talk some sense into them but good luck.

I met with the principle and the teacher this evening and the results were better than expected. The root of the problem became evident when I made a comment that we were a Christian family and not ashamed of it. The principle asked the teacher how she could justify her reasoning by telling us that Tyler was not to wear the shirt and she replied that she was worried that Tyler would be picked on because of his beliefs. Of course that made me hot and I asked her if she was an atheist and she replied that she was. I recommended that the conversation end at this point and that my attorney would contact the school board and we'll let them work it out. Well that sure changed EVERYTHING! The principle excused the teacher from the room and told us that Tyler was to report to her office in the morning at which time he would be reassigned to another homeroom class. She said that the teacher will be talked to about school policy and her "unauthorized change of school policy". I thanked her and as we were leaving she assured us that wearing such shirts are allowed in school. I'm satisfied with the way that the principle handled the situation. The teacher is new to our area and can't be any older than 30. Sounds like she has a lot to learn herself. Thanks for the support

Glad it worked out Ray (for now) but are you sure you want to expose Tyler to the potential bullying that waring his faith on his sleeve may cause?
I know, I know it's your right. But I can also recall the issues I had as a DP (displaced person) in schools when I immigrated here from the Ukraine as a youth of 10. Aside from being called 'communist' (by a teacher, no less) it was an everyday struggle because I was 'different' until I proved that I would take no spit... with my fists. Is Typer tough enough to do that? School can be a brutally tough place. AND YOU CAN'T FIGHT ALL HIS BATTLES.

Took my son to the "get aquainted" night his elementary school holds each year last week. When we walked in his classroom his teacher looked at me in suprise and said, "I was wondering if it could be you when I saw his name!" His teacher and I were in the same sunday school class back in the 1950s & 60s!
We had a long talk (reunion of sorts) and I don't think he will have many problems this year. I also explained to her (in front of him, of course  ) if she has any discipline problems and feels he needs any correction she is not allowed to provide (paddling) just let me know and I will see it's administered.
I'm sure glad he got an older teacher with plenty of experience and good old common sense!
