What will you be using this fall?
This post is to see what gear ( gun/crossbow/bow) people are using this fall.
I will either be using my vortex loaded with rage 2 blades or my compound bow at 52# with nap thunderheads, not sure if the bow is capable of taking down a big buck or not.

Archery season; my new Phoenix with factory flemish fast flight string and Carbon Express 20" bolts with 150 grain Wensel Woodsmans (470 grain total).
Primitive weapons; either my TC .54 Hawken or Lyman .54 Great Plains rifle with patched .530 round ball for deer and hogs.
Modern firearms; Sako .30-06 fitted with a McMillan composite stock, pillar bedded and barrel free floated. Handloaded Sierra 150 grain spire points at 2900 fps-groups first three rounds out of a cold barrel into .5" at 100 yards. I think I may just have found a public land power line cut to use this one on. Also, red box Ruger Blackhawk in .45 colt, recessed case heads, 7.5" with a 3X scope on it that groups 2" at 75 yards with my 250 grain hand cast handloads. This is my wife's gun, but she lets me use it. My walk around gun is an S&W 4" .45 Colt Mountain Gun with the same loads as the Ruger. Deer and hogs are dead out to 50 yards.
With luck I may be up at the Bill Elliot (Clybel) WMA and get to meet Ground Pounder on one of my fall hunts. That would be a blast!

Bow season: Vixen
Shotgun season: Mossberg 500 12 g.
Rifle season: Savage 99 .300
or perhaps the Ruger 30-06 my Dad gave me last year before he died.
Haven't been able to get away to rifle hunt for the last few years since my son was born. Maybe this year I'll be able to again. Am hoping so. I miss going up north!

Bow season -Ross 337 since x-bows are basically illegal in NYS but in 2009 I can use my phoenix in NJ as it appears they will be legal for all hunters during any season. Rifle season NYS remington 742 30-06 for the northern opener and southern opener. Browning A-bolt SS 30-06 for my trip to northern saskachewan during the 4th week of rifle season. Late season ML will be a T/C Omega if I can find the time.
