Serving, silicone & car wax

Post by sumner4991 »

Guys . . .I've stopped using silicone. Looks like it has the ability to break down the wax used to preserve the serving/string. I just got through waxing down the rail with a premium grade of car wax. It seems smoother than ever before. I also waxed down my arrows, they too are slicker than ever, or so it seems. I'm getting ready to go out and shoot, but, I don't have a chrony. I was just wondering if anyone has tried car wax.

My Shelby looks awesome with 3 hand rubbed coats of Meguires
It makes it and faster too I'm sure, but I can't tell for sure because because the speedo, I mean (chrony) gets burried 8)

Oh well . . .no adjustment to the speed dial.

Still . . .avoid silicone.

I'm using a teflon based bike dry lube. That seems to work very well. I'll have to see how well the serving like the new treatment.

Yes I've used car wax and it works great. However, I've come across a product that IMO is easier to apply and works even better. It cleans and lubricates all in one easy step. What is this product, well it's the product that BOO has at his cottage.

Scott, use a wax with silicone like Bohning's string wax. Nothing wrong the the Excal stuff either, it works.
Lou, you should have come up for some liberal application of that other stuff, it does not do a good job of protecting but once you use enough you don't care!

Don, the stuff I'm using isn't the same as the stuff you're talking about. My stuff comes in a can, not a bottle and works so fine. Would you like to take another stab at the stuff I'm referring to?

Lou . . .Boo was running out of the stuff rather quickly. Of course, I was as much to blame as anyone.

Boo . . .I didn't know they made such a thing. I'll check it out. You are talking about using this string wax on the rail, right? I'm talking about waxing the rail instead of using the silicone spray. The silicone spray breaks down the string wax and it's impossible to avoid getting any on the string.

Be carefull car wax is a littel bit abrasive!!!
I prefere to use excal wax on serving and a stick of Barnett wax on the rail and I clean arrows with a rag imbued of guns oil, but I do not think it can change speed.
I do not know why Excal doesn't make a rail of teflon replaceable, for "preserveing" the serving

I used car wax on my Vert bows arrows. It got rid of the squeek of the arrow sliding on the arrow rest.

That's the stuff I was referring to. Jig-a-loo works like no other stuff I've tried. Check it out.

Hello another new guy, I used carwax on my compound arrows years ago they pick up a little speed and actually seems to quiet the bow a little. :D

Scott, I thought you were talking about the serving. If you use a car wax be careful, may use carry a polishing compound. Make sure it is a polymer as opposed to wax and feel the stuff between your fingers. I would think that Nufinish would work well.
As far as Jig a loo goes it is almost as slippery as Woody's arrow lube and Scorpion Venom arrow lube. Both are high tenacity lubricants. Just don't leave any visible residue.

There is no abrasive in what I'm using. I think clean is probably more important than greasy/oily. Something that keeps the rail slick and clean. Also, I'm always afraid of getting lube on my hands and grabbing the stock, the last thing I want slick. The car wax is easy to apply exactly where it's needed.

Anyway, I'm 300 shots into my latest serving. I'm hoping that's half way. 8)

Thanks for the input guys. I'll have to try that jig a loo.
