As I always state, I'm still a newbie. Not much real shooting experience and wear experience. Anyway.
I'm going to buy a Boo string, that is a fact (if Don wanna make it for me

). The question I ask is Whiskers or no whiskers, as I'm just target shooting my phoenix (hunting not allowed in Sweden).
I got a good STS (matthias V-bar), so that lowers the sound of the bow quite alot. The question is it overkill to get whiskers also? Or do you think: "Why not get them, always nice with a quiet bow"? Or will the fps loss damage the bows performance more than the actual "happiness gain" by the lowering of noise.
What do you think. I guess you all have thoughts on it.

The whiskers help with the vibes, even with a STS. However, I just like the looks of the whiskers. Especially with certain color combo's. They have Boo Custom written all over them.

I'd rather wear out than rust out.

Guys, I really like the combination of a 40 strand Boo string and an STS without the whiskers. Your string speeds are around 10 ft/sec higher than the factory endless loop Dacron string and much less noise and shock. The whiskers are with out a doubt a great silencing aid but at a cost of about 6 to 10 ft/sec lower depending on how much rubber you trim off. On my Y25 the affect of a 40 strand string, whiskers and an STS is amazing. You'll not believe how much more quiet until you hear it.

So will you hear it?
So Boo, in my case, whiskers or no whiskers?
I guess the speed loss might make my archery club more happy as the penetration of the tarkets will get lower. By some reason archers in Sweden seems to be scared of crossbows.

Yes you still hear the bow and it is as noisy as some of my past compound bows but a fraction of what your bow produces now. When Catcher dry-fired my Y25 I heard the arrow spring arm over the dry-fire.
Whiskers? I guess if all you do is target shooting I would say no whiskers for reasons of consistency. On the other hand less noise means better concentration on the shot as well as less vibration and shock. I think the best is probably no whiskers in the end.
As far as damage to the targets go my Hoyt Vulcan and many other compound are rated as fast or faster then the Vortex. So there is no basis for thinking your crossbow is going to be more damaging to the targets.

I agree... its funny because the new PSE is rated 350 while its about 10-15 others atleast also that shoot 320-330 now.. The Hoyt Katera shoots 330

which im looking into getting next year

Digger, I like your head gear . . .both of them. Do whiskers keep the string warm too?

Doug, you sure don't look like a person that saves lives. More like one of those guys that chase bail jumpers! LOL!
Now that's some funny stuff.. My wife had emailed Don and asked him the same.. To whisker or not to whisker.. Well right now on her bow she has the STS with no whiskers and a dyna flight string.. Now it seems to her if she keeps the string just a hair off the STS bumpers vibration and sound is cut in half compared to just whiskers.. We have both orded a set of Boo 40's and we are gonna stick with STS no whiskers..
