Grunt Before Shot?

Post by TNXBow »

I wanted to see what the majority position is on who grunts before shooting to stop the deer. Also if you do grunt, what type of grunt do you use before shooting your crossbow?

Thanks for your opinion.

i use my mouth.. sometimes I whistle or yell to get the deer to stop lol :D

it doesnt matter what the sound is like, but you bass the level of the sound on how close the deer is and how intent he is on what he's doing.

I dont waste my time getting the grunt call out since I dont wanna get caught with my bow down 8)

Never had to stop one for a shot yet, but with a little practice you should be able to vocally produce a grunt sound good enough to stop one.

I sometimes grunt when I cock the crossbow, though - even "broke wind" a time or two when cocking it by hand!

I also practice all my mouth calls for them spots where you can't get to your call. As far as stopping a deer for a bow shot. I give them a kiss. I've found in close range this works the best. Just make a loud kissing noise they stop and you have gaven them a kiss goodbye, the kiss of death, the kiss that lead to the broken heart! it goes on and on. :) I do use the grunt and the snort weeze in long yardage situations. Good Luck!

I usually get so excited when I see a big buck I yell - HOLY crap!!!!!
The deer stops running but starts laughing. Go figure.

works every time for me .just loud enough for them to hear. if you do it to loud they will stop but they will be at full alert ready to jump the string.i also don't do this if its over 30 yards
