I, like Dick, carry my 45 automatic on my hip when I walk the woods and pastures. Call it a very old habit. A long time ago it saved my life.dick195252 wrote:Thats why i carry my Model 29 44 Mag when i am just roaming my landIt really gets there attention just seeing it strapped on my side
I am pretty sure it is still up to the task should it be called to do the same again.

I pack too ... more for snakes and the possible surly bear than people ... but I have it, and I know how to use it. I often carry concealed, though (by permit).Mike P wrote:I, like Dick, carry my 45 automatic on my hip when I walk the woods and pastures. Call it a very old habit. Dick, I've got a S&W 629 Classic with an 8 & 3/8" barrel ... a real "Dirty Harry" looking revolver. Maybe I should start packing it around.dick195252 wrote:Thats why i carry my Model 29 44 Mag when i am just roaming my landIt really gets there attention just seeing it strapped on my side

You wouldn't have to hit an assailant with it. The muzzle blast and concussion would do just fine!

Glad you got it back.
There are lots of things in life that scare me
People are not one of them and confrontation is no problem
But as my wife says being almost 6'8" and 250 lbs helps but so does the 44 magnum on my hip.
Good on ya for getting it back
Cant stand a thief

I didn't say I carry a .45 ... only that I "pack" too.mikej wrote: Grizz: What kind of snakes do you have that you need a 45 Auto?

But, for the record, I carry a concealed hammer Smith Airweight in .38 +P most of the time. It's not a long range weapon, but it's perfect for up close and is especially useful if it's grabbed, obstructed or covered, being snag-proof and jam-proof. It's also light, and as they say, "The best gun to have is the gun that is with you." It's easy to pack, no one knows I have it if I don't want them too, and it's there when I need it.
I have others, of course, including "Dirty Harry"!

For the record, we have these worrisome snakes:
Timber Rattlers
Copperheads
Cottonmouths
Pigmy Rattlers
Coral Snakes
Ray might even have a few Eastern Diamondbacks ... they're rare, though.
