Great looking hobby you have their! I like the uniqueness with the filing at the end of the barrel. And with which stain to use, I like the ones numbers (5 6) or (7 8) really like the darker colors. Great work with it all!

Maple looks great on the Hawken!

I bought a used caplock Hawken last year for a low price ($75) because the barrel had been pretty well trashed by a DIY attempt to drill it for scope mounts. Tossed the barrel in my junk pile and picked up a Green Mountain "Long range hunter" barrel (21" 1-28 twist) for it on sale for $95 at the time. Less than $200 in it (with shipping costs for the barrel included) and I have a very good sidelock for hunting from a tree stand or in heavy brush. Now a maple stock would really set it off if you decide to put the walnut back on yours! (Guess I should have said, "Maple really looks out of place and ugly on a Hawken!")

The other rifle is looking good! I like color #3.
