Yahoo !!!!! Passeed the Test

Post by sleddog2 »

Well Guy's I passed the Hunter Safety course today (finally). I am just full of knowledge, except for ONE THING, can I go deer hunting this year or NOT?
I have read the reg book for Ontario & it is as clear as mud to this NEWBIE. I want to just crossbow hunt on my own land, to combat the deer from eating all my corn & beans.

Have I left it too late?

Thanks for the HELP.

Can't help you there, but congrats on passing anyway! :D

PS: Confusing, poorly written regulations aren't limited to the Canadian provinces. I don't know Wildlife Departments get the clarity-challenged phraseologists they employ to write the rules.

There must be a test!

Congratulations on passing!
I would think you can now legally hunt, but it might not hurt to phone the wildlife officer and confirm it.

As Dutch said, you will be able to buy an antlered tag only as we are past the date for putting in for a doe tag.

However, with that being said if you are in an area that has extra doe tags for archery you may be in luck. Check with your local MNR office.

Either way you will be good to go Oct 1st.

Congrats on the test. My son passed also. Got your pm. Yes you can hunt this year. I think you can go to Listowel Town hall and they maybe able to issue from there. Then go to a licencing office,( i know CtC or Home Hardware sell licences) with your proof and they will issue your antler tag.
Ty said you have lots of turkey and deer on the farm. If you need help just pm and maybe we can help

if you can show proof of passing you should have got a paper licence ( outdoors card) and should be able to get a licence for a buck only and since you are only using a bow you won't need to wait on your possession card you should be fine

in Virginia, you can hunt your own land without any license;) No tests or nothing are needed if you hunt your own land. Im not sure what the rules are up your way, but i'd check into that also.

You still have to tag the deer or call in, but you just enter the option of killed on your own land and no license required;)

You have to take your paper work to the MNR and they give you the temporary licences you will need.
E.G, small game and deer licence (buck only), then ask them if there are any "additional" deer seals left in your area (wmu) that you are hunting and you might be able to get an anterless tag.

I beleive if you apply for your outdoors card online, you can get an
E-license and then just print you license.

Sleddog2,

Congrats on passing! Are you in WMU 86A? You have a nice long bow only season, lucky you. If you need any help keeping your deer population down, let me know...my folks have a cottage up at Port Elgin which is just north west of you. I believe you can apply for a nuisance tag. Go to your closet service Ontario site to get your licence, Goderich 38 North st. Guelph 1 Stone Rd W or Kitchener 200 King st W. Pg 80 of the 2008 Guide.

Good luck this season.
Take it easy.

Fergie,
You may still be able to find antlerless tags for 87 but you would have to buy them at the service Ontario outlet - Kitchener 200 King st W -
