Tonights hunt

Post by saxman »

I let two does walk tonight because they had a NICE buck ghosting them
The does fed 20 yards from me for fifteen minutes looking back every now and then.
I was waiting for the buck.
He never came in and they moved off.

An old man once told me
"When you have a LEGAL deer in shooting range,SHOOT"

Here is my kill for tonight
4'6" Eastern Diamondback. 9 rattles and 1 button
I shot him with my 38 that I keep in my back pocket.
I shot him in the body so I can mount him.

I just got permission to buy snake boots,Imagine that

Saxman I see that you haven't learned the proper way to kill a rattlesnake. You simply cut his tail off, ..... just as dang close to the back of his head as you can  .
God Bless !!!!!!!!!

Funny....When you hunt like we do here you never think of things like that~! Snakes are not my favorite so you are a better man than I because I probably would have screamed like a school girl and soon after that my depends would have let go~!

Nice catch.

We're so fortunate here - not much in the way of snakes to worry about. There's the Massassauga Rattler, but they're mostly a bit north and west of here in cottage country. Good thing too, as we can't pack heat.

I believe each time the snake sheds it's skin it adds another rattle and the button is the tip.

So I guess it has shed 8 -9 times.
I could be wrong and will look it up

The Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake is the largest of all venomous snakes in the United States. Sullen disposition, bold and sometimes aggressive. Fangs can measure one inch in large specimens. Venom is toxic.
Average length 5 feet, maximum length 7 feet.

Q. Can I tell how old a rattlesnake is by counting its rattles?

A. No. The rattlesnake’s rattle is composed of individual segments of keratin, the same material as your fingernails, and each time the snake sheds its skin (usually between 1 and 4 times a year) a new segment of the rattles is added. Baby rattlesnakes are born with one segment called a button and cannot make any sound until they shed and add new segments. Additionally, over time segments of the rattle may be lost due to wear and tear.

Q. How does a rattlesnake feel about a redneck with a Charter Arms 38 + P

A. It dont feel nothin anymore

Hi Sax,
if you have a traditional longbow, you can use the snake skin to cover the limbs. Image
Really goodlooking
