Disapointment & confusion sets in

Post by saxman »

I had to go to an Orthopedic specialist today
I've been having shoulder trouble for a while.
I thought maybe physical therapy or a small out patient surgery.
NOOOOOOO
I have to have a FULL SHOULDER REPLACEMENT
I am bone to bone in three places and it HURTS!!!!!!!

To make matters worse I go by my parents house because they live right down the road from the doctor and my father expresses his DISPLEASURE in me for hunting and shooting Doe's

He is old school and a dog hunter and in those circles unless it's doe day and you are a child or a girl you dont shoot doe's.

I am CHRUSHED at his disapointment in me.I was so proud to be able to share my hunt with him and he wanted no part of it and I am not in his favor for this kill.

I explained about bow hunting and things being different nowdays, the Bioligist's know what they are doing when setting bag limits.
To no avail.

I dont remember feeling this low as I have done nothing wrong,I am a deer hunter not a horn hunter.

Just thought I would vent.

Sorry to hear about that Sax. Good luck with the shoulder, I've got friends that have had the surgery with great results. When are you having the surgery?

Your Dad still loves you, don't take it too hard.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.
Perception trumps intention.

Best of Luck on the Surgery Saxman. I have to do something in the near future. I have trouble lifting a Gallon of Milk now.

My Father is the same way. 88 years old from the old School. Thinks its a Sin to shoot a Doe.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder's troubles, Sax! Hope they can fix it without too much misery on your part.

I'm sure it's no fun to have Dad disapprove, but remember that he's simply wrong on this. You didn't just do something that is all right; you did something that is good and necessary. If deer hunting is to remain a viable resource for sportsmen, then guys like us need to kill does.

Sumner is right. He'll get over it. :D

Good luck with the shoulder, my brother just had his done, it is going to take some time but it should be better than normal when you are done.

As for your dad, these things happen, at our camp it is "if its brown its down" and nobody hunted with bows, so say we should not use dogs and hunt earlier in the year with a bow gets the same response.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that kind of judgement coming from someone that you expect would congratulate you and share in your joy.

No matter how old we get, our parents still have the ability to "make or break" so much about us.

When my Dad gave me his 30.06 last year, I stood by his bed and had to listen to him tell me not to hunt, that I had better things to do with my time. Tough to take, but my mother tells me how he enjoyed telling people about his daughter that shoots and hunts and does "other crazy things". I know he was proud of me and loved me, he just wasn't so good at letting me know that all the time.

No matter what your family thinks or says, you have a close family here on the forum that is proud to know you and to hear of every success in your life.

sax, brush it off man.... everyone has different opinions on hunting. I dont like taking small bucks, some do, but I dont judge them for it. Huntings for everyone and we all have different styles. As long as you enjoy what you do, then thats all that matters. Its great taking does also to help herd health and to help farmers out. Let him know that up here no one shoots does and they are going to end up forcing hunters to take them before you harvest a buck. You are doing a good deed shooting doe. Keep up the good work and coming from us farmers, we thank you :D 8)
